You can't deny Deadpool. For the third weekend in a row, "Deadpool" was the #1 movie domestically, adding another $31.5 million to its stateside haul. This brings the film's international haul $609.8M. Domestically, the film is now closing in on being one of the top 10 highest-grossing comic book adaptations of all time. "Deadpool" passed "Amazing Spider-Man's" box office this past weekend and now has "Man of Steel" (which earned $291M domestically) in its sights.
The film easily fended off newcomer "Gods of Egypt," which earned only $14 million against its $140 million budget. Box Office Mojo notes that that it's very unlikely "Gods of Egypt" will make its money back. The week's other newcomers, "Eddie the Eagle" and "Triple 9," earned $6.3 and $6.1 million, respectively.
Even before "Deadpool's" record-breaking, massive opening weekend, Fox greenlit a sequel. Over the weekend, Fox announced plans to release two more Marvel movies on October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018. While films have not been named for those dates, it's assumed that "Gambit" will arrive in October 2017 and "Deadpool 2" could arrive in January 2018.
"Deadpool" is in theaters now.
