Fox's "Deadpool" was not only a surprise box-office hit, but also the not-so-surprising toast of torrent sites.

In its rundown of the most-pirated films of 2016, TorrentFreak reports the Ryan Reynolds action-comedy was the clear winner, outpacing the likes of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" for the dubious honor.

"Pirated copies of the American superhero film first appeared early February triggering millions of downloads during the months that followed," the website reports. "Even today, thousands of people are still actively sharing it."

TorrenFreak's list is heavy on superhero and sci-fi movies, with "Deadpool" followed by Warner Bros.' "Batman v Superman," Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War," Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and Fox's "X-Men: Apocalypse." See the full Top 10 below.

Released Feb. 12, the R-rated "Deadpool" went on to gross more than $783 million worldwide, to become the most successful film in Fox's X-Men franchise. The movie won two Critics' Choice Awards, for best Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy (Ryan Reynolds), and has been nominated for a pair of Golden Globes. A sequel is in development with "John Wick's" David Leitch replacing Tim Miller as director.
