Having already broken numerous box office records, "Deadpool" now has the honor of being the highest-grossing film in the "X-Men" film series, surpassing previous record-holder "X-Men: Days of Future Past" at the global box office.
Unprecedented for an R-rated action flick, "Deadpool" is now officially the most successful movie in the mutant-centric superhero franchise on a global scale -- having already passed "X-Men: The Last Stand" domestically by a wide margin -- with a $749 million total gross to date. The film earned $3.5 million from this weekend alone.
Prior to earning the "X-Men" record, "Deadpool" was already the highest-grossing R-rated movie worldwide, beating out "The Matrix Reloaded."
The Tim Miller-directed film got off to a great start, earning $135 million domestically and $125 million internationally over the course of its opening weekend.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, "Deadpool" is currently in theaters.
