The Wrong Side: Deadpool Succeeds Where the Avengers Failed

In “The Wrong Side,” I examine comic book fights that were particularly notable in the wrong side winning (or at least that the fight wasn’t won the “right” way). This really isn’t a big deal, of course, as it doesn’t really matter if the “wrong” person won a fight. But it’s fun to talk about! Here are our past editions of the feature.

If you want to suggest a fight for future inclusion in this feature, drop me a line at Don’t suggest a fight in the comments!

Reader Tom A. suggested a fight between Deadpool and Kang from Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars, the hilariously clever miniseries by Cullen Bunn and Matteo Lolli that revealed that Deadpool was present for the original Secret Wars storyline (but was just erased from being there at the end).

Okay, first off, let’s check their respective power levels. And the way we always do this is to, of course, see how they each did fighting Spider-Man.

Kang kicked Spider-Man’s butt (along with Iron Man!) in Marvel Team-Up #10…

And Spider-Man has fought Deadpool many times and done pretty well at it…

Plus, Kang sort of debuted, you know, FIGHTING THE ENTIRE AVENGERS TEAM AND WINNING!

So, in Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #1, when Deadpool gets the drop on Kang and takes him out this easily…

It doesn’t totally work. Now, don’t get me wrong, I get that the miniseries was meant to be funny (and it WAS. It was a good miniseries). So if you want to chalk this up as a joke, then fair enough, but just saying, for the purpose of this column, then Deadpool should not be able to kick Kang’s ass so easily like that.

Thanks to Tom for the suggestion!

If anyone else out there has a suggestion for a fight that you think the “wrong” side won, drop me a line at!
