Although Deadpool was born a regular human, he eventually became a skilled mercenary and gun-for-hire with one of the world's most impressive healing factors. With powers derived from the DNA of Wolverine, Wade Wilson can regenerate damaged or destroyed body tissue even faster than Wolverine. Deadpool has survived grueling injuries such as being dismembered, shot in the head, and even attacked by sharks. The Merc with a Mouth has a history of surviving nearly any injury conceivable, with his trademark smirk and raunchy sense of humor intact.

Deadpool has overcome almost all forms of injury, poison, and damage, surviving for centuries by virtue of his powers. However, there is one method proven to be effective in destroying Deadpool: fully destroying his body with acid.

While a highly corrosive substance like acid is strong enough to destroy most things, it stands out as a uniquely effective way of stopping Deadpool. In the Secret Wars tie-in Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos, one of the alternate domains of Battleworld was a timeline in which Dracula defeated Deadpool in their fateful duel. Initially, Deadpool was confident he could be restored -- until Dracula ordered his body disposed of in a powerful acid and thrown out to sea. This was able to kill this version of Deadpool, confirmed by his subsequent return as a ghost.

In the mainstream Marvel Universe, Taskmaster and Bullseye had a similar idea during the events of The Despicable Deadpool by Gerry Dugan and Mike Hawthorne. While suffering from depression after losing everyone he loved, Deadpool placed a massive bounty on himself. Reasoning that someone would eventually find a way to kill him and claim the prize, Taskmaster and Bullseye came closest to achieving the goal.

The assassins draw on their wealth of experience in dealing with Deadpool, eventually concocting the elaborate idea of tossing him into a woodchipper and feeding the remains to a school of piranha before incinerating the voracious water creatures. While they don't get the chance to see if this plan works, it follows along the same basic idea as the acid in Secret Wars, and even Deadpool is convinced that this would kill him.

Likewise, an unexpected dip in lava during Deadpool's stint on the Thunderbolts seemed to destroyed him in Thunderbolts #26 by Charles Soule and Paco Diaz Luque, destroying his body completely and preventing him from healing from even a single cell -- only for Thunderbolt Ross to reverse the event by changing the past to prevent his team from being wiped out. It may be a difficult task, but it appears that fully destroying Deadpool's body is the only surefire way to kill the deranged but always entertaining anti-hero.
