Deadpool 2 took the humor and irreverence of the first film and turned it up to 11. As a result, the movie was more expansive and even more faithful to the larger X-Men universe than what came before. There was also the introduction of new mutants and powers. Unfortunately, while some powers hit their mark, other abilities failed to be useful. One ability, in particular, was more trouble than it was worth, becoming the worst power in the entire franchise and even other Marvel movies.
Characters like Deadpool can take the disgusting ability to heal and make it as practical as it is entertaining. Even after being ripped in half, for example, Wade Wilson can't die. Additionally, Domino can use her luck abilities to make everything around her work in her favor. But for every great ability, there's an equally terrible power, like Zeitgeist's acidic vomit. The character first appeared in X-Force #116 and was a leader of another team known as X-Statix. While he has all the makings of being an integral part of the team, Deadpool 2 makes him anything but.
In Deadpool 2, Wade and Weasel hold auditions to see who has the chops to join Wade on a dangerous mission to save his friend Russell. During the audition process, he meets multiple interesting mutants, including Zeitgeist. While speaking with Weasel and Wade, Zeitgeist gives off an air of confidence. He even offers to show off his powers, implying that he has a degree of control similar to that of the comics. Both the films and the books haven't clocked in how far he can spit vomit, but it's confirmed that it can burn through most metals in seconds due to its high acidity.
Even though Zeitgeist's power is a niche one, it does show some promise. That being said, he seems to have less control over it in dangerous situations. During the film, Deadpool has his team parachute during a high wind advisory. The results are catastrophic, as each member of the team is killed one by one. Unfortunately, Zeitgeist gets caught in a wood chipper. However, when fellow X-Force member, Peter, goes in to save him, Zeitgeist's powers get the better of him and he vomits on Peter, removing his arm and killing him. Zeitgeist then plunges feet first into the chipper, sealing his fate. Even though the character appears to have control and even wears a protective mouth covering, it isn't enough to keep his nerves in check and save him from certain doom. As a result, it becomes even more evident that while acidic vomit is a powerful tool, it's only effective when in the right hands.
Zeitgeist's abilities may be the worst power in the Marvel films, but X-Force still has its own runner-up. Another character with an equally useless power is Vanisher, who has the power of invisibility. While it's great for stealth, its use in combat is nonexistent. Vanisher wasn't even able to use his powers in action because a powerline killed him before he could touch the ground.
Deadpool 2 does a fantastic job at shining a light on the lesser-known mutants of the Marvel universe. However, in doing so, some of the worst abilities are put on display. While there are benefits to Zeitgeist's powers, his nerves make him more of a risk than a help. When in stressful situations, he puts his teammates in danger and accidentally kills one, which leads to his own gruesome end. By the time the credits roll, it's clear that gaining the power of acidic vomit is more of a punishment than a gift.
