Deadpool 3 may not be filming, but early development and marketing campaigns have officially begun. The film's lead star Ryan Reynolds takes it to social media, trolling and updating fans with the latest and biggest news. But while Wolverine's return takes most of the spotlight, one detail in Reynolds' video update might have hinted at the film's potential villain.

In the video, Reynolds was reading Wolverine Vol. 7 No. 21 while sitting on the toilet in his Deadpool suit. The comic book features the latest Wolverine and Deadpool team-up, in which they fought Danger, a sentient personification of the X-Men's Danger Room. Let's explore what that means and how Danger could fit into Deadpool 3.

Who Is Marvel Comics' Danger

Danger Robot of the X-Men in Marvel Comics

Danger Room was Charles Xavier's creation, designed as a room located in the off-limits west wing of his mansion to train X-Men. The original Danger Room was set up with traps, projectile firing devices and more mechanical designs, like collapsing walls, to challenge the trainee. There was an overhanging control booth where an observer could oversee, manage and control the training. Later, the Danger Room was upgraded with robots to be fighting opponents.

The room served X-Men for many years and was used against them occasionally. But Wolverine Vol. 7 #21 painted a scenario where the Danger Room became a villain rather than an ally. Wolverine and Deadpool were outnumbered and surrounded by robot X-Men in their last-ditch effort to save mutant lives, painting Danger as a formidable foe.

How Danger Could Factor Into Deadpool 3

Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool 3 is slated to release on Sept. 6, 2024. Though plots are tightly under wraps, Reynolds' announcement promised to bring Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, Reynolds' Deadpool first encountered Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Later, Logan died in the events of Logan, set in the near future of 2029, but Deadpool 3 will not disturb the timeline.

Since the announcement of Deadpool 3, fans have been speculating about the potential antagonists. Madcap and Typhoid Mary are both popular choices to be the film's villains. However, with Reynolds holding Deadpool and Wolverine's latest comic team-up in hand, he could very much hint at the X-Men's own creation coming as one of the potential villains.

In this case, Wolverine and Deadpool would be up against a powerful opponent, considering the Danger Room was designed to train X-Men. The sentient personification would be able to use their weaknesses against them. And like the comics, the duo would be challenged to dive deeper into their powers. It wouldn't be pretty, but if the film did adapt the story arc where Danger was used against them, it certainly would promise a lot of action.
