Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds recently addressed the rumors that the Merc With a Mouth will show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Reynolds denied speculation around his character's involvement in Multiverse of Madness, according to Variety. "I'm really not in the movie," Reynolds said in response to the rumors. The actor double-downed on his statement when pushed, adding, "I’m promising, I’m not in the movie." As for a movie Reynolds' mutant mercenary will be appearing in, the actor touched on the progress of Deadpool 3, simply saying of the film, "It's coming along."

Speculation surrounding Deadpool making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Multiverse of Madness began when an eagle-eyed fan spotted what appeared to be Deadpool's reflection in a glass shard featured on a recent poster for the upcoming sequel. Similarly, a fan spotted what clearly seems to be Captain Carter's shield from What If...? on the Doctor Strange 2 poster.

Though very little is currently known about the Doctor Strange film, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has hinted that much of the leaked information about Multiverse of Madness is probably legitimate. "They are testing the shit out of this movie," Liefeld said during an interview earlier this month. "The thing is, they're testing, it's all getting out." Liefeld related the leaks to what he experienced during test screenings of the Deadpool movies, going to explain, "We're all hitting those hashtags and we're like, 'Oh crap! They're showing this. People are seeing this.' I think it's safe to say some of the stuff, you just said that's out there, it's happening," Liefeld said. "It's in, it's been seen."

Regardless of Deadpool's potential role in Multiverse of Madness, Wade Wilson is still set to make his MCU debut with Deadpool 3. Reynolds last provided an update on the film in November 2021, saying, "Plugging away. I can't really comment right now. Hopefully soon, though." Production on the film is likely to begin sometime this year, as Reynolds commented on the likelihood of Deadpool 3 starting to shoot in 2022. "I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe? We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape," the actor said. "What the hell month is it? August? Oh, next year? Probably pretty damn good. I'd say 70%."

Although Deadpool 3 currently lacks a release date, fans might be able to spot the Merc With a Mouth when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters May 6.
