Hugh Jackman has reaffirmed that Wolverine joining the cast of Deadpool 3 won't have any bearing on the character's death in Logan.

While appearing on the The Empire Film Podcast, Jackman revealed that he had discussed reprising his role as Wolverine with Logan director James Mangold. "He was actually really cool about it," the actor explained. "I did tell him that it took place before our movie. So, it wasn't going to screw up -- with the claws coming out of the grave. So, he was relieved by that. And he thought it was a really -- he totally got it. He thought it was a really good idea."

Despite Wolverine's death in the climax of Logan, which was meant to be Jackman's last time playing the iconic antihero, Ryan Reynolds announced Jackman would return to play the character in Deadpool 3 this past September. While the exact nature of Wolverine's return is unknown, it has been heavily implied that time travel will factor into the much-anticipated sequel. As Jackman explained in an interview, "All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now we can go back because you know it's science. And so I don't have to screw with the Logan timeline which was important to me and I think probably to the fans too."

Deadpool and Wolverine Are Headed to Marvel Studios

Rumors suggest that Deadpool 3 will see the unlikely team-up visit previous Fox-produced Marvel movies before the Merc with the Mouth properly joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director Shawn Levy discussed what he and Reynolds wanted when integrating the character into an established continuity without losing what makes him unique. "It's the first Deadpool movie in the MCU. There's going to be no lack of visual effects," Levy said. "But it's also a North Star priority for Ryan and I to keep Deadpool raw, gritty, grounded in the ways that those movies have been and that all of us love."

In addition to Reynolds and Jackman, the cast of Deadpool 3 will reportedly include Owen Wilson reprising his Loki role as TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius, while Leslie Uggams is expected to return as Deadpool's roommate, Blind Al. According to casting rumors, Disney is seeking a female actor to play the lead villain of the film, with some fans believing the antagonist in question will be the on-again/off-again X-Men baddie Danger.

Deadpool 3 is set to release on Nov. 8, 2024.
