The already building excitement for Deadpool 3 just clawed even deeper with the announcement that Hugh Jackman will reprise his iconic role of Logan/Wolverine in the film. That presents several opportunities for the likely very comical movie, though jokes are only part of the equation. Just as likely are incredible action sequences featuring Weapon X and the Merc With a Mouth, the likes of which could erase the stain of an infamous X-Men movie moment.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was easily the worst of the solo Wolverine trilogy, and one of its greatest sins was the way in which it used characters like Deadpool. That movie's take on Deadpool is infamously bad, but Deadpool 3 could make up for it with a real Wolverine vs. Deadpool fight. Here's how the Merc with a Mouth's latest cinematic battle could redeem one of his first.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Shut Deadpool Up -- Literally

Throughout earlier scenes in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wade is a mercenary that wears a stealth costume that's essentially a maskless version of his comic book costume. Given his jovial nature, even the more subdued suit couldn't keep Ryan Reynolds from shining as the loudmouth. Unfortunately, said mouth would become a lot quieter in the movie's disastrous climax.

In the film, Wade is turned into "Weapon XI" by William Stryker, having been experimented upon and given the powers of different mutants. These included retractable arm blades and the ability to shoot eye lasers like Cyclops, none of which had anything to do with Deadpool's actual powers. To add insult to injury, the unrecognizable Wade actually had his mouth sewn shut, taking away the sarcastic commentary of a character known for fourth wall-breaking quips.

Needless to say, fans were not happy, and this horrific adaptation of Deadpool became infamous among superhero movies. The actual Deadpool films would constantly make fun of disastrous take on the character, though they never fixed the issue by having a fight between Wolverine and Deadpool. However, with a third Deadpool movie bringing Jackman back, that mistake can finally be fixed.

Deadpool 3 Can Finally Give Fans the Fight X-Men Origins: Wolverine Ruined

Deadpool Wolverine X-Men Origins

Unless the script takes some incredible turn for the even more self-aware, it's unlikely that Deadpool 3 will have the title character unleashing arm blades or shooting out eye lasers. Thus, given the likely R-rated nature of the film, there's a chance that the film will do what even a good version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine couldn't. A true Deadpool and the only cinematic Wolverine will finally be able to slash, stab and cut away at each other in bloody, gory fashion, with the evolution of violence in superhero movies and shows making this much more palatable and marketable. Likewise, there will likely be all manner of jokes in such a scene, with Deadpool potentially commenting that he's surprised that Disney is allowing such a level of dismemberment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

By putting an actually well-done Wolverine/Deadpool fight in the third and likely final film, the Deadpool series will come full circle, pulling off successfully what his first cinematic appearance failed at. With Jackman relenting and finally returning to the role of Wolverine, such a scuffle is almost guaranteed. And with the level of fan service in these movies so far, there's no way that Deadpool's next film will make the same mistakes as the infamous X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
