Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that Ryan Reynold's Deadpool 3 will be an R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year," Feige told Collider. "Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

Of course, there have been numerous reports regarding the rating status of Deadpool 3. A November 2020 report stated that Deadpool 3 would be R-rated, just like the previous two Deadpool films.

"Sources now say the film is still expected to be rated R like the previous two installments," Deadline reporter Justin Kroll said. In addition, the site also reported that Bob's Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin are attached to write after pitching to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.

Fox's Deadpool franchise began as a spinoff of the X-Men film series and introduced a new Wade Wilson to the film universe, one more faithful to the comic book series created by writer Fabian Nicieza and writer and artist Rob Liefeld. Unlike the majority of the X-Men films, Deadpool and its 2018 sequel were given an R-rating and both went on to become some of the highest-grossing films with such a rating, topped only by 2019's Joker.

It remains to be seen how the family-friendly studio will choose to handle the decidedly R-rated Deadpool, whose first two films grossed a collective $1.57 billion worldwide. Also unknown is who will helm Deadpool 3. The first film was directed by Tim Miller and the second by David Leitch. However, Leitch isn't expected to return due to a packed schedule.

Written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin, Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds. The film has yet to receive a release date.
