Readers who have already stopped by their local comic store today may have noticed that the cover of Marvel's Deadpool #27, the special wedding issue, includes a little something extra: a seal certifying it as a Guinness World Records record holder.

The wraparound cover by Scott Koblish and Val Staples, featuring 232 denizens of the Marvel Universe gathered for Wade Wilson's wedding, has set the record for the most comic book characters on a single issue cover. Guinness found that 224 of those characters were publicly familiar enough to qualify for the recognition. Alas, there's no mention of which eight didn't make the cut.

If that seems like an awfully specific record, that's because it is. Guinness long ago moved beyond world's longest fingernails, oldest living person or hours spent sitting atop a flag pole. Now it will certify the size of your comic book, the number of people who contributed to it, the extent of your Smurf collection or how many people dressed up as Superman at your event. (For a price, Guinness will send an adjudicator to instantly verify the record and present the official certificate; that also gets you promotional support, including an article on the book's website.)

“When artist Scott Koblish proposed this cover layout to me, I thought he was crazy … but it’s the kind of crazy you have to respect," Deadpool editor Jordan White said in a statement. "I think there’s no better testament to both his insanity and the amazing cover he and colorist Val Staples produced than an officially recognized world record.”
