Introduced in 1976 in Marvel Comics' X-Men #99, Black Tom is the cousin of the X-Man Banshee and a frequent criminal partner of Juggernaut. The Irish mutant is capable of utilizing wood to generate thermokinetic blasts, but a secondary mutation gave him several more abilities related to plants, including telekinesis and growth abilities.

The villain has faced off against Deadpool several times over the decades, and once sought to use the Merc with a Mouth's healing factor as a cure for a plant growth spreading across his body.
