That Ryan Reynolds has teased the possibility of time-travel in next year's Deadpool 2 should come as no surprise to Marvel Comics readers given that Cable is involved in the film. Still, it's always god to hear when movies are choosing to stick close to the source material rather than veering off wildly in other directions.

When discussing the topic of time travel in the movie, Reynolds told Screen Rant, "It is possible. Your answers will all be, they’ll be soon. They'll be coming soon." Fans are already speculating that time travel could play a bigger role in the film, especially with the recent image of Josh Brolin as Cable with a teddy bear attached to his utility belt, hinting that Hope Summers may also factor into the film.

In the comics, Cable is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a Jean Grey clone), who was transported to and returned from the future as a soldier bent on stopping Apocalypse's rise to power. Cable and Hope were the major players in Marvel's "Messiah Complex" storyline which shaped her as the first new mutant birth since Scarlet Witch de-powered the species in "House of M." She was also hinted as the new host for the Phoenix Force in this event and with a Dark Phoenix reboot underway, as well as New Mutants and an X-Force movie in the works -- two teams Cable helped form and lead in the comics -- time travel would go a long way to explaining Cable's presence in Fox's X-Men cinematic universe.

Directed by David Leitch (John Wick), Deadpool 2 sees the return of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film opens June 1, 2018.
