The Merc With a Mouth is back in Deadpool 2, and judging by the first reactions the sequel delivers a satisfying follow-up with an even better post-credits scene.
Fans stormed social media earlier today as they made their way out of the first screening of Deadpool 2. As with other superhero films, the comic book follow-up was at the center of rumors earlier this year that suggested it was undergoing massive reshoots to improve the film by adding more Domino and Cable.
Those reports suggested that the return of Wade Wilson would fail to live up to the success of its predecessor. However, the first crowd reactions seem to imply otherwise, as many were quick to heap praise upon the film and its post-credits scenes -- which some are hailing the best of any comic book film.
While the film itself is receiving plenty of praise from fans, it's actually what takes place after the film that's garnering the most attention. Deadpool 2 is said to have multiple post-credits scenes, and while next to nothing is known regarding what those scenes include, at least one is being hailed as the "best post credit scene ever."
I didn't like the first Deadpool. DEADPOOL 2 beat me into submission until I was actually enjoying myself. Also it features my now favorite post credit scene.— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) May 10, 2018
Just saw #Deadpool2. Safe to say it features the best post credits scene EVER. I’m still recovering.— Nigel M. Smith (@nigelmfs) May 10, 2018
#Deadpool2: I’ll say this, it earns the hell out of that R rating. And the cameos. And the post-credit scenes.— Kate Erbland (@katerbland) May 10, 2018
Also receiving plenty of praise? Josh Brolin's portrayal of Cable. The actor is already seeing massive success following his turn as Thanos in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War, and now he looks set to prove he was the right choice for the time-traveling Mutant.
I liked DEADPOOL 2 more than the first one (which I wasn’t a huge fan of). Slow to start but all the stuff with X-Force and Cable (and Peter!) works surprisingly well.— Matt Singer (@mattsinger) May 10, 2018
So I liked #Deadpool2 more than the first movie. I think it’s more ambitious, and it pays off. There’s plenty of humor, action & drama — and the movie balances it well. Cable & Domino are standouts (I love them 😭 and I can’t wait for #XForce). Plus there are some FUN surprises— 💀 Mollsoleum 👻 (@mollyrockit) May 10, 2018
The first film proved to be a smashing success for Fox, as it went against everything fans had come to expect from comic book movies. Now, its successor appears to be doubling down on those same elements, while also making it funnier and a heck of a lot more violent.
So, #DEADPOOL2 is the perfect sequel. Doubles down on everything that fans love about the original, and fixes some of that film's issues. Huge, huge laughs that play the audience like a fiddle. @VancityReynolds destroys as Wade. Great action, fantastic comic nods. A killer ride! pic.twitter.com/KaM8gUT2Jf— Sean O'Connell (@Sean_OConnell) May 10, 2018
#Deadpool2 is no doubt the most violent major release since Kill Bill Volume 1. It’s also funnier than the first and has me genuinely excited for a sequel. Oh and it features a ton of Canada jokes, so of course I loved it.— Nigel M. Smith (@nigelmfs) May 10, 2018
Tickets are on sale now for the sequel. Though still a week out, Deadpool 2 looks set to beat out the first film at the box office with estimates eyeing a $150 million opening weekend for Wade Wilson and X-Force. That number can, of course, change depending on word of mouth and how much steam Marvel Studios' Infinity War has going into its fourth weekend. Either way, Deadpool 2 looks to be another win for Reynolds and Fox.
In theaters May 18, director David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
