Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds gives another shout-out to his native Canada at the goodnatured expense of Europe in the latest promo for the upcoming sequel. In the video, Deadpool namedrops his homeland's musical accomplishments while expressing indignation that Canada has been snubbed at this year's Eurovision Awards.
"Don't give me that crap about Canada not being part of the European family," the Merc with a Mouth deadpans. "You let in Australia and they're barely on the planet."
After naming Canadian-born musicians like Neil Young, Justin Bieber and Bryan Adams, Deadpool notes that "our generous gift of Celine Dion alone should earn us an invite," in a nod to the superhero appearing with Dion in the music video for her new song "Ashes" from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack.
As the promo draws to a close, Deadpool warns that the Europe has "awakened a sleeping moose" and lists European locations for the ongoing Deadpool 2 promotional tour, which is scheduled to run through May 12.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison as Russell, and Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
