The Merc with a Mouth pays tribute to Irene Cara with the new poster for Fox's Deadpool 2.

The image, of Deadpool leaning back onto a chair and basking in a shower of bullet casings, was unveiled this morning on Twitter by star Ryan Reynolds, who added, "Take your passion. And make it happen." It's of course an homage of the 1983 hit Flashdance, which raises hopes that we'll be treated to an elaborate dance number in the sequel.

The new poster may help soothe the disappointment felt by fans when a Deadpool 2 trailer didn't debut during the Super Bowl. Instead, the movie's Twitter-account hilariously live-tweeted Sunday's big game. We shouldn't have to wait much longer to see new footage, however, as the full-length trailer is expected to arrive next week with Marvel's Black Panther.

The film hits theaters on May 18.
