Movie studios know experiential marketing is one way to get fans to promote their movies for them. Add alcohol to the experience and you have got an event. Deadpool 2 does not appear to need much more marketing, what with all the pithy billboards and trailers, but New York and L.A. fans of the film — or plain old chimichanga lovers — can Instagram to their hearts’ delight at one of two Deadpool-inspired pop-up bars.
The pop-up bars take the form of Sister Margaret’s School for Wayward Girls, a place for degenerates, mercenaries and now those just pretending to be besties with Deadpool. The pop-up bars are a collaborative promotion campaign between Fox’s Deadpool 2 and Mike’s Harder. What goes well with alcoholic lemonade? Chimichangas and pizza, of course, which will also be served at the pop-ups.
The New York pop-up will be at the Alligator Lounge in Brooklyn, April 26-28 from 7 to 11:30 pm. The Los Angeles pop-up will be May 10-12 from 7 to 11:30 PM at Slipper Clutch, a bar located behind Bar Clacson on Broadway, making it a bar within a bar within a bar.
Deadpool 2‘s pop-ups come hot on the heels of popular pop-ups for Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival, including a pop-up bar of The Roadhouse and The Double R Diner.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 will be in theaters on May 18. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Josh Brolin as Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, and Karan Soni as Dopinder.
