With the news of Deadpool 2 getting a PG-13 re-release, fans of the Merc with a Mouth will have to decide whether they want to revisit the film, this time starring a toned-down take on the titular character. It sounds like Fox's re-release will do the legwork to differentiate the edited film from its R-rated original, though, going so far as to give the film a brand-new title -- one that may evoke holiday cheer.
As revealed on Twitter by journalist Lizo Mzimba, the film will allegedly be titled The Deadpool Before Christmas, a play on the classic poem A Visit from St. Nicholas. Given that the film will be released on Dec. 21, which is close to Christmas, Fox may be planning to tie the movie into the holiday somehow.
While Deadpool is hardly a character anyone would associate with a family-oriented holiday like Christmas, Fox might be playing on the character's popularity as a way to entice holiday moviegoers into seeing the re-cut version, even if the more adult elements are reined in for younger viewers. Fox has not yet confirmed if the PG-13 re-cut will retain its alleged Christmassy title.
David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
