Deadpool 2's Omega Red Finally Makes His Debut

For a little while now, we've known that the Russian X-Men villain known as Omega Red was set make his live-action debut in some capacity in the Deadpool 2 home release. But the character's role was kept a mystery -- until now. Thanks to a behind the scenes image from the shoot of the film, we now know that Omega Red was actually among the mutants held prisoner in the Ice Box prison facility.

Our first look at Deadpool 2's Omega Red comes courtesy of makeup artist Bill Corso, who worked on the film. On his Instagram page, Corso revealed a close-up shot of Arkady Gregorivich, aka Omega Red. While the mutant villain isn't seen wearing his iconic suit complete with retractable tentacles, the actor does bear a striking resemblance to the character, from the pale skin to the blond hair.

Omega Red is set to be seen in action in a bonus feature titled "Chess With Omega Red," which leads us to believe that it will actually be a bonus scene featuring Wade Wilson playing chess with Arkady while locked up in the Ice Box prison. However, it's also important to note that Bill Corso shared the picture of Omega Red in order to celebrate the upcoming showing of Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut that will take place at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego.

This means that it's entirely possible that the X-Men villain will be seen in the uncut version of Deadpool 2. Perhaps the full chess scene will actually be featured in the film. We doubt that Wade Wilson is about to play fair, which could mean that a fight between the two mutants could be in order. Omega Red may be wearing a power-dampening collar, but he's also known to be a fierce hand-to-hand combatant who can give Deadpool a run for his money.

Either way, we will find out how Omega Red fits into Deadpool 2 this weekend during the special fan screening of Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut at SDCC 2018. The worldwide premiere of the movie will take place this Saturday in Hall H of the convention center, following a Deadpool 2 panel slated for 5:15 pm PST.
