Thus far, the trailers for Deadpool 2 have done a wonderful job of showing fans a ton of new things to drool over without giving much away. Aside from some obvious new inclusions like Cable and Domino and the return of already established X-Folk from the first film like Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus, the trailers have given us glimpses of mutants we’ve never seen before or at least not in the same capacity in which they are being presented in Deadpool 2.
While there has been a lot of debate regarding which character Terry Crews is playing and just who else is part of Deadpool’s X-Force Team, the biggest question surrounding additions to the cast is what character the fifteen year old New Zealander Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) is portraying.
The young actor has been featured in the trailers since the very first Bob Ross-themed teaser last November, but his character has not been given a name. Now, with the latest trailer, we see for sure that Dennison’s character is a mutant (or at the very least, possesses powers), and we are lead to believe that Cable has traveled from the future to kill him. But why?
Time-traveling adventures and precocious children go together like peanut butter and jelly when it comes to Nathan Summers. Usually, however, he's trying to protect said children, not shoot them in the face. To be fair, the trailer dialogue (coupled with the fact that he beats the living daylights out of Wade Wilson) could be edited to make us think Cable is the villain in the film, but given how insane the X-Men film franchise has been, it’s hard to completely discredit the information presented here trailer as fact.
But Cable's true motives aside, the bigger question remains: Who the hell is that kid?
