In 2018’s Deadpool 2, Juggernaut burst onto cinema screens and went toe-to-toe with the Merc With a Mouth and his team. While Colossus eventually got the better of the villain, Juggernaut, at one point in the film, ripped Deadpool in half, forcing the hero to regenerate the lower-half of his body. However, this event might just have set the stage for a new villain to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Evil Deadpool.
Evil Deadpool was introduced in 2011’s Deadpool #44, by Daniel Way, Carlo Barberi, Walden Wong and Jorge Gonzalez Aguilar. The issue saw Dr. Ella Whitby discover some missing parts of the hero in a refrigerator. The parts were strewn into a dumpster, where they reformed, creating a twisted version of the hero -- one without the (still somewhat lacking) moral compass of Deadpool proper.
In the comics, Evil Deadpool possesses all of the powers of his heroic counterpart, including his healing factor. His costume is a mashup of various outfits worn by Deadpool, including a blue and yellow costume worn during a stint with the X-Men. This version of Deadpool is the embodiment of pure evil and does not hesitate to kill, having taken out the garbage men who found him in his dumpster and the passengers of the plane he traveled aboard. He's tangled with Captain America, and established himself as a Merc willing to take jobs too ghastly for the real Wade Wilson. An early encounter with villain Mr. Negative had Evil Deadpool requesting "the greasiest, shadiest, most heinous piece of wet work gig," an indication he would kill without compunction. The target of the contract? A kid.
If brought to the MCU, Evil Deadpool could be a major threat to the heroes of the MCU, while also providing some meta, tongue-in-cheek humor. Considering just how strong Evil Deadpool is, he might just end up becoming the most chaotic force the MCU has ever seen. Plus, the introduction of the evil version of an already volatile character would certainly allow for some tonal juxtaposition with the original Deadpool and allow for a much, much darker tone.
While it's anybody's guess right now as to just whether Evil Deadpool will actually come to the MCU, there are a lot of theories about how the characters formerly owned by 21st Century Fox -- including the X-Men, Fantastic Four and the Merc With a Mouth himself -- will end up appearing in the MCU after having been off-limits for so long. Most theories center around the multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will take the titular hero to different worlds; The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which will seemingly feature the mutant-associated island of Madripoor; and WandaVision, which seems to be taking cues from the House of M event. Any of these productions could theoretically be the one to bring Fox's former characters to the MCU.
Regardless of what incarnation first debuts in the MCU, Deadpool's introduction will certainly make a lot of fans very happy. However, Marvel Studios has a golden opportunity to bring in a chaotic, dangerous and deadly version of Deadpool like none that's ever appeared on the big-screen before.
