If there's any remaining doubt about the casting of Josh Brolin as Cable, the fan-favorite time-traveling cybernetic mutant, in Deadpool 2, star Ryan Reynolds will be the first to assure skeptics his performance will be "epic."

"I have spent this week on the business end of many Josh Brolin punches, both verbal and physical and literal," he told Fandango, "and it's going to be pretty fantastic. He's going to be epic. He's going to be an epic Cable."

Although the 5-foot-10 Brolin doesn't quite measure up to the towering mutant from the comics, his experience playing the villainous Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe certainly demonstrates the 49-year-old actor has the onscreen presence required. And, as he showed in June, he definitely has the look.

"Face is morphing into something machine, fierce, hair sliced, arm machined, bulged," Brolin wrote in a caption accompanying a photo of his Cable makeup process. "Where is Deadpool?!? Looking. Looking."

The Academy Award nominee has embraced the role, although he recently admitted that he initially had reservations. "When they asked me to do it, I was like, ‘Ah, I do Deadpool and I’m doing the Thanos thing right now, and should I do it?'” Brolin said. “And my wife just said, ‘Read it. Why are you even thinking? Just read it.’ And I read it, and I laughed harder than I’ve laughed in a very long time. So, it’s funny. … Cable can be very funny. He can be a lot of different things, but he also can be very funny.”

Arriving in theaters June 1, 2018, Deadpool 2 will see the return of Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, accompanied by franchise newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable.
