The third and final trailer for Deadpool 2 arrived this morning, setting up the mission, introducing most of Wade Wilson's new team, and calling into question whether Domino's luck is actually a superpower. (Spoiler: It's not, according to Deadpool.)

But the new footage also officially names the X-Force members played by Terry Crews and Lewis Tan, gives Colossus some much-need screen time, raises a question about a potential villain, and gets in a couple of digs at Josh Brolin's filmography. And, oh, have you met Peter yet? You will.

We break down the best moments, and biggest questions, of the Deadpool 2 trailer below.

You All Know the Drill ...

deadpool 2 final trailer

Leave it to the Deadpool franchise to open its final trailer with a relatively straightforward setup for action/superhero movie, with the key players oh-so-seriously setting up as they, and the audience, are informed of the mission ... and then to immediately undercut that with the Wade Wilson fans know and love.

However, this sequence does deliver some key information, with our first look at the exterior of the mutant detention center in which Julian Dennison's fiery young character Russell is presumably held, at least at some point. We're still unclear on the sequence, or even the timelines, of the events. Are the scenes of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson in a yellow inmate jumpsuit from Cable's future, or are they part of the plan in the present to spring Russell? We're still betting on the former.

Wait, Who Are Those Guys?

deadpool 2 final trailer

Deadpool's thumbs-up is presumably directed at the helicopter pilot, but given the merc's fourth wall-breaking tendencies, it could just as easily be to the audience. The shot gives us another look at Bill Skarsgard's character, who appears to be Zeitgeist from Peter Milligan and Michael Allred's X-Force run, and introduces us, although not yet by name, to a very nervous Peter, whom we think is played by actor-comedian Rob Delaney (more on him later). Of course that's Zazie Beetz's Domino in the background.

With Deadpool's command of "Hit it!," the music starts and the Marvel and Fox logos appear, signaling the shift to the type of trailer everyone anticipated.

Terry Crew Is STILL Bedlam

deadpool 2 final trailer

Still having fun with genre tropes, Deadpool and T.J. Miller's Weasel assemble the team -- X-Force, as we learned from the previous trailer -- with a roll call of at least some of its members. They begin with Terry Crews as Bedlam, one of the big surprises of the first trailer. Although his character's name wasn't mentioned in any promos before now, Crews confirmed last month on Twitter that he is indeed playing the mutant introduced in the 1995 Marvel Comics crossover Age of Apocalypse.

Bedlam isn't exactly an A-list X-Men character, but this is the Deadpool franchise after all ...

Introducing Shatterstar (and His Headgear)

deadpool 2 final trailer

Fan-favorite 1990s superhero, and X-Force founding member, Shatterstar was glimpsed in the first two trailers for Deadpool 2, but here he's singled out as part of the audition montage. Played by Lewis Tan (Iron Fist, Into the Badlands), he receives his own fleeting action sequence as he takes on two DMC guards -- presumably the film's answer to the Mutant Response Division from the comics -- using twin blades.

He certainly looks comics-accurate, rocking the '90s-style costume and headgear, and however you want to describe that hair.

Luck Isn't a Superpower

deadpool 2 final trailer

Zazie Beetz has already received plenty of screen time as Domino, but this audition scene serves a dual purpose in (sort of) explaining her probability-altering mutant ability -- "I'm lucky" -- and to slyly acknowledge behind-the-scenes concerns about how difficult it would be to depict her power onscreen.

"Luck isn't a superpower," Deadpool determines, "and certainly not very cinematic." While Domino and the Merc With a Mouth have a clear difference of opinion on that matter, he arrives at a concession: "Let's meet in the middle and say it isn't."

Colossus Is a Hit

deadpool 2 final trailer

The presence of Colossus in earlier trailers was pretty much limited to that scene of Deadpool copping a feel in the foyer of the X-Men mansion, presumably because of the hero is primarily a CGI creation. But with this, the sequel's final trailer, his giant-size metallic body is given plenty of time to shine, as he's sent flying into a TV news truck (a visual gag, as the station is WHIT17; get it, HIT?). Although the editing makes it appear the X-Man is in a standoff with Josh Brolin's Cable, we're going to guess the blast actually comes from Julian Dennison's Russell.

We're still left to wonder how Colossus and Brianna Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead fit into the plot of Deadpool 2. They aren't part of the newly assembled X-Force, but they're obviously still part of the story. Perhaps it's the X-Men who turn to Deadpool for help, rather than the other way around.

So ... Dark

deadpool 2 final trailer

As we would expect, Josh Brolin plays it straight as the time-traveling Cable, and ventures into some dark territory. So much so, in fact, that even when beaten and bloody, with a knife jammed into his shoulder, Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson feels the need to question his true origins, while getting in a jab at another superhero franchise.

"So dark," Wade gasps. "You sure you're not from the DC Universe?" Zing.

Russell Unleashes His Mutant Powers

deadpool 2 final trailer

The biggest clue to the identity of the young mutant played by Julian Dennison came Sunday in a Deadpool 2 TV spot where, for the first time, the Merc With a Mouth actually mentioned his first name: Russell (previously, he'd only been referred to as "the kid" by Deadpool and Cable). That led us to theorize he's Russell Collins, the pyrokinetic mutant introduced in Marvel's X-Factor #1.

The kid has been shown plenty of times before, with the glowing hands depicted in the previous trailer tipping off his power, but this is the first time we've actually seen him use his mutant abilities. Of course, we still have no clue why Cable has traveled back in time to kill him -- although we can speculate that young Russell grows up to become someone powerful enough to create an incredibly dark future.

Is This a Classic Comic Book Match-Up?

deadpool 2 final trailer

Rumors have long swirled that Juggernaut, the classic X-Men foe, would make an appearance in Deadpool 2, perhaps redeeming himself after that groan-inducing film debut in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. That's owing in part to the widespread belief that Jack Kesy was cast as Black Tom Cassidy, a frequent criminal partner of Juggernaut. But in a TV spot that aired Sunday, we got a glimpse of Colossus punching an object that some speculated is the villain's signature metal skullcap.

With this trailer we get a better look at the sequence in question, and honestly? It does look like the Juggernaut's helmet. Of course, it also looks as if Colossus means business, as he's driving a blade into its surface with his enormous steel fist.

The Goonies vs. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

deadpool 2 final trailer

This showdown between Josh Brolin's Cable and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool aboard the DMC convoy is awesome on its face, to be sure. But it's layered with metatextual commentary, with the taunt of "One-Eyed Willy" referring to Brolin's film debut in 1985's The Goonies -- One-Eyed Willy was the name of the pirate whose treasure the kids discover -- and the bullet-deflecting swords serving as a callback to Wade Wilson's first appearance, in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

"Your bullets," a breathless Deadpool concludes, "they're really fast."

Don't Get Too Attached to Peter

deadpool 2 final trailer

Seen earlier in the trailer trying desperately not to lose his lunch in the back of the helicopter, wonderful, khaki-wearing, powerless Peter cheerfully responds to Deadpool's ad for a team of superheroes. So, of course, he's immediately granted membership. We next see him falling, with eyes closed, through the sky, presumably counting until it's time to pull the ripcord. Something makes us think that parachute may not actually make an appearance.

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell. The film hits theaters on May 18.
