Early designs from Deadpool 2 have continued to surface online teasing much different versions of Domino and Cable than seen in the final film.
Concept artist Alexander Lozano, who posted early designs of Juggernaut yesterday on his Instagram account, shared designs of Domino and Cable from early on in the sequel's production when Tim Miller was still attached to direct. Similar to the preliminary Juggernaut designs, the concept art for both characters is noticeably more faithful to its comic book source material.
Domino, who appears to be a completely different ethnicity here, is depicted as more fully clothed than Zazie Beetz's fan-favorite appearance as the character and more heavily armed. Early designs depicted the character either wearing a hood and mask resembling Sebastian Stan's initial appearance as the Winter Soldier in the 2014 Captain America sequel while another design has Domino wearing a scarf similar to Jyn Erso in Star Wars: Rogue One.
Cable's original designs has the time-traveling mutant appear bulkier than Josh Brolin's final appearance and sporting more armor and a more futuristic looking gun. While the character's signature techno-organic virus has still rendered his left arm into metal, the design is similarly more bulked up than the version seen in the film.
After directing the 2016 original Deadpool film, Miller left production of the sequel in October 2016 while the film was early in pre-production citing creative differences. He was ultimately replaced by John Wick director David Leitch.
While it's hard to say how Miller's original vision of Deadpool 2 would have turned out, the released concept art provides a glimpse at what could have been.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapičić, and Karan Soni, with newcomers Zazie Beetz, Josh Brolin, and Julian Dennison. The film is available now on digital HD and will be released on August 21 on Blu-ray.
