As China prepares for the theatrical release of Deadpool 2 this coming weekend, the Chinese version of the film has gained a very interesting subtitle.
The PG-13 rated version of Deadpool 2 carries a revised title that translate to Deadpool 2: I Love My Family. The subtitle is a reference to a popular Chinese television series from the 90s that followed a family in Beijing.
After receiving a family-friendly alternate version last month with Once Upon a Deadpool, the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 was approved for a quick Chinese theatrical release just last week with the updated version successfully passing strict Chinese censors.
Star Ryan Reynolds is currently in China to promote the upcoming wide release of the film, skipping a scheduled surgery for his arm which had been injured during filming. While the film has already been widely pirated online, Fox hopes Reynolds' popularity with Chinese audiences, as well as the Hollywood superhero genre, will give the film an additional box office boost eight months since its initial release.
David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
