Because that, between Bob Ross parody teasers, unicorns and frozen-food commercials, the marketing rollout for Deadpool 2 hasn't been surreal enough, Celine Dion has unveiled the music video for her new song "Ashes," from the sequel's soundtrack.
The debut is accompanied, of course, by a music video, complete with film footage, a modern-dance performance by the Merc With a Mouth, and a standing ovation from a costumed Ryan Reynolds. "That was amazing!" he shouts from the back of the theater. "That was the most beautiful performance I've ever seen in my life." However, he points out, Dion's performance might have been just too good for the likes of Deadpool 2.
"You're at like an 11," he tells a surprised Dion. "We need to get you down to a five, five and a half, tops! Just phone it in." But that just won't do for the Canadian singer.
Reynolds gave the video a simultaneous debut on Twitter, accompanied by the words, "Showtime, Mama."
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, and Julian Dennison. Jack Kesy plays a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
