The highly-anticipated remake of Dead Space has reportedly shifted its launch window out of 2022.

According to reputable journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, developer EA Motive is now aiming to release Dead Space in early 2023. While a formal launch window was never announced, rumors suggested that the team was hoping to ship the game in late 2022. A reason behind the potential internal delay was not specified, but Grubb states that Electronic Arts is placing more time into the production process of Isaac Clarke's reimagined adventure to "wow fans when it returns."

While next to nothing is known about the upcoming Dead Space game, the brief teaser trailer suggests that it will be taking many aspects of the beloved game and revamping them for a modern audience. The in-engine footage highlights the blood-soaked corridors of the USG Ishimura, before cutting to an isolated workbench where protagonist Isaac Clarke patches himself up. "Cut off their limbs" is smeared across the wall, alluding to how players will need to deal with the hideous monsters known as the necromorphs.

"The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience," reads the trailer description. "Harnessing the power of the Frostbite game engine and next generation consoles, this remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original.

Widely considered to be of the most iconic horror games of all time, Dead Space was heavily inspired by similarly scary titles such as Resident Evil 4 and Alien. Following the grim adventure of engineer Isaac Clarke, who becomes stranded on an abandoned vessel flooded with flesh-eating creatures, the game was lauded for its chilling presentation. The enclosed spaces of the Ishimura helped create an oppressive feeling of terror, made all the more terrifying by the necromorphs constantly prowling in the dark.

The Dead Space franchise was widely considered dormant by fans following the disappointing release of the third game. While still flirting with the survival-horror genre, many players criticized Dead Space 3 for leaning too heavily on third-person shooter action sequences, while others took issue with the unnecessary inclusion of microtransactions.

While the remake of Dead Space does not have a release date, the game will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
