Old Man Logan started as a pretty simple concept. In an alternate reality from Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Logan put aside the Wolverine persona in a dystopian future, refusing to unleash his claws after he was tricked by Mysterio into murdering the X-Men. In a United States run by villains, he was forced to kill again when the Hulk Gang murdered his family.

After that, however, Old Man Logan ended up being transported into 2015's Secret Wars multiversal mash-up and eventually into the main Marvel Universe before heading back home. With Dead Man Logan seemingly telling this Wolverine's last adventure, CBR is taking a look back at Old Man Logan's life and his slow demise.

WHAT DID OLD MAN LOGAN DO IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?

Marvel Comics' Old Man Logan and Maestro Fight

Naturally, Old Man Logan tried to kill Mysterio in the main Marvel Universe, so he couldn't trick him or anyone else into harming anyone. While that was one of his primary objectives, it didn't stop him from running afoul of numerous villains, including the Maestro. He'd also fought familiar villains such as the Reavers and Lady Deathstrike while trying to find a way back to his world, the Wastelands.

With his allies afraid to break the timestream, Logan ended up spending time being a hero in the Marvel Universe. He was hired by Maria Hill during Civil War II, he even ran with the Avengers, and played a key role against Weapon H. To say his stint here was event-filled would be a massive understatement, since the hero also fought the Inhumans andthe new Hydra. He was even recruited for a few X-Mens which was more important to him than Captain America's similar efforts, since it gave Logan a chance to be with the family he had killed in his time.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN DEAD MAN LOGAN?

In Ed Brisson and Mike Hawthorne's Dead Man Logan miniseries, Logan needed to wrap things up in the 616 to return home for a final farewell. He eventually met his counterpart, who returned to life with a Space Stone, and used a time machine created by Forge to return to his reality. However, it hasn't been smooth sailing there, however, as a resurrected Sabretooth has leading the hunt for him.

Logan merely wants to be with his family, but along with baby Bruce and Dani Cage, he finds the Wastelands' villains coming in hot on his tail. It seems like the bounty on his head never died down, although meeting the older version of Speedball might be the explosive trump card he needs to take these enemies out once and for all. He's tired and resigned to a tragic fate, so as of Dead Man Logan #9, he's desperate to take everyone out so he can simply die in peace.

WHAT'S KILLING THIS VERSION OF LOGAN?

Old Man Logan is dying because of adamantium poisoning. He tried delaying it in the 616 using the Regenix drug but after a while, that proved ineffective and somewhat detrimental to his health, which is why he wants to go home to die in the company of those he loves. He's fighting for a hero's farewell, riding off into the sunset, since nothing can seemingly cure him, even with the help of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe.

This plot is quite similar to director James Mangold's Logan movie, where Hugh Jackman's character got adamantium poisoning there. This also nullified his healing factor too, and when he fought the vicious X-24, he died after being impaled on a tree. While the comic book version of Old Man Logan is poised to go out on a more high-octane note, he still seems set to have an emotional, affecting death, much like his cinematic counterpart.
