A key character from the superhero series Peacemaker could be unlocked within the DCEU sooner than fans expect, according to DC Studios boss James Gunn.

Gunn posted a series of party photos on his Instagram wishing Peacemaker star Steve Agee a happy 54th birthday on Feb. 26. While sending his best wishes to Agee, Gunn teased that the actor's character John Economos from The Suicide Squad spinoff show will be someone "who you’ll see sooner than you think."

Is Peacemaker Season 2 Coming?

While Gunn has assured that Season 2 of Peacemaker is on its way, the award-winning director recently revealed the follow-up season's premiere is put on hold while he tackles other projects. Gunn's DCU faces an extensive transformation following his and Peter Safran's takeover of DC Studios last October, announcing a new slate of DC live-action movies and TV series that will air via HBO Max.

Among the new TV series in the new DCU lineup is the Peacemaker spinoff Waller, featuring Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, and Creature Commandos, which will cross over with Peacemaker, according to Gunn. While Gunn said a character from Creature Commandos will appear in Waller, his John Economos tease potentially suggests the Peacemaker character could return the favor by featuring in Creature Commandos if he is to appear elsewhere in the DCU. Alternatively, John could appear in Waller alongside the eponymous civil servant and A.R.G.U.S. director.

Who Is John Economos?

Steve Agee's character in Peacemaker is an A.R.G.U.S. agent who regularly provides tactical support for Project Butterfly. Agee also played John in The Suicide Squad, with his prior film credits including an MCU appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Violet. The comedian and musician featured in several notable TV shows such as Rick and Morty, Community, Modern Family and Superstore.

Peacemaker stars WWE superstar-turned-actor John Cena who reprises his character from The Suicide Squad, a polarizing superhero known for making dispiriting jokes and possessing villainous qualities despite being a protagonist. Cena stars in Peacemaker alongside Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks, Harry Potter film franchise actor Freddie Stroma and Black Adam's Jennifer Holland. Gunn serves as the showrunner for the Peacemaker series, which aired eight episodes during Season 1. The studio boss previously confirmed Season 2 will likely feature more cameos from the imminently reorganizing DCEU.

Fans can stream all Season 1 episodes of the Peacemaker series on HBO Max.
