Neil Gaiman's The Sandman Universe has continued the universally acclaimed Vertigo Comics franchise into its own shared universe, with a new maxi-series The Dreaming: Waking Hours teasing bigger -- and more terrifying -- things to come.

DC Comics has released a black and white preview of the series debut issue, by G. Willow Wilson and Nick Robles. Launching this May from DC's mature readers publishing imprint DC Black Label, the upcoming maxi-series has Daniel, the Lord of Dreams, create sinister Nightmares as part of his responsibilities as one of the Endless. The issue's advance solicitation information and standard cover, illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz, are below.

The Sandman Universe launched as a pop-up comic book line personally overseen by Gaiman in September 2018, with the award-winning writer selecting the line of titles' various creative teams himself. Sandman Universe titles were initially published under the DC Vertigo imprint, before moving to DC Black Label following Vertigo's retirement. As the flagship title of the line following the adventures of Dream, DC announced that The Dreaming would end with issue #20 this April, before relaunching in a more self-contained format as evidenced by the upcoming maxi-series.
