Having headquarters is a thing that is almost a necessity in the DC Universe. Every good team and every great super-hero has a headquarters. It's where some of the members live and where computers and monitors help keep watch over the world.

These are not necessarily the most iconic headquarters, although that is taken into account. These headquarters are also ranked by a combination of functionality, definition, and style. The list is also limited to headquarters that have been established in the comics.

10 Challengers Mountain: Challengers Of The Unknown

Challengers Mountain was the home of the Challengers of the Unknown. It's not well known, but it was one of the first team headquarters that established the parameters of a super-team headquarters. It had separate sections for various purposes, including a hanger, garage and detention cells.

The Challengers are almost forgotten among DC heroes. However, they were once famous enough to be given a mountain for their feats of heroism. While functional and impressive inside, from the outside Challengers Mountain is indiscernible from the surrounding mountains.

9 Secret Sanctuary: Justice League Of America/Legion Of Super-Heroes/Doom Patrol

This was the cave that was the first headquarters of the Justice League of America. It later became the headquarters of the Doom Patrol. It sat outside of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, known as the hometown of JLA "mascot" Snapper Carr.

Despite being one of the older headquarters, it's been re-used by multiple versions of the Justice League, a time-lost Legion of Super-Heroes, and the Doom Patrol. As one would expect from a team with Aquaman, it also has access to the ocean. It's just a matter of time before another team makes use of it.

8 Tower Of Fate: Doctor Fate

Doctor Fate has a tower outside of Salem, Massachusetts. From afar, it looks very ordinary. As one gets closer, it becomes apparent that something is strange about this building. There are no openings, either windows or doors. At different times, the tower becomes an ominous presence for those approaching.

Only Doctor Fate and those he's touching can pass through the walls. Inside is a mystic Nexus containing many powerful artifacts. Currently, it is not used and remains a historical blueprint for mystic headquarters.

7 Fortress Of Solitude: Superman

Superman has a headquarters that exists more as a museum than as a base of operations. Nevertheless, it's one of the more impressive headquarters in the DC Universe. In addition to its remote location near the North Pole, Most versions have some form of lock that only someone with Superman's power can open.

Thanks to the Kryptonian technology inside, it's one of the most advanced repositories of scientific knowledge on Earth. The trophies inside that are from Superman's adventures also make for an imposing presence on anyone that gets inside.

6 Legion Clubhouse: Legion Of Super-Heroes/Legion Of Substitute Heroes/Legionnaires

The original headquarters for the Legion of Super-Heroes, this building has become iconic with its resemblance to an old-style rocket that has buried itself in the ground. After the Legion abandoned it, it became the home of the Legion of Substitute Heroes. In the Legion of "Five Years Later," it became the headquarters of the Legionnaires, youthful doppelgangers of the adult Legion.

It often looks rather small, but inside was meeting space and everything the early Legion needed. Subsequent versions of the Legion have had headquarters that resemble this building. In one story, it was even revealed that the clubhouse was an applicant that was able to transform into the shelter but lost his memory.

5 JLA Watchtower: Justice League

jla watchtower on the moon in DC Comics

This is the headquarters of the Justice League built on the moon. Like their previous satellite, it's accessible via teleportation tubes on Earth. This is not the Watchtower from the New 52, which more resembles the classic JLA Satellite.

The Watchtower is vast and has one of the most expansive trophy rooms honoring all previous versions of the League. Its remote location didn't keep it from being destroyed at least once. Like the satellite, some would argue that it distances the League too much from the people they're sworn to protect.

4 Legion Headquarters (the 1980s): Legion of Super-Heroes

This Headquarters for the Legion of Super-Heroes was constructed by Computo from plans designed by Brainiac 5. It exists entirely above ground and was capable of lifting off into space. It incorporated rooms from the previous headquarters like the Hall of Heroes, Brainiac 5's multi-lab, and the Mission Monitor Room.

It's notable for having a very science-fiction feel, levitating above the plaza. It also allowed for variable living quarters for a variety of Legionnaires, including the less humanoid Tellus and Quislet. Eventually, it would be destroyed during the Dominator occupation of Earth.

3 Batcave: Batman

Batman's headquarters remains one of the most iconic headquarters. Located beneath Wayne Manor, it has everything Batman needs for his missions. It also has trophies from earlier cases such as a robotic T-Rex, giant penny, and Giant Joker playing card.

Batman remodeled a cave that terrified him as a child into the base of his war on crime. It also has enough room to expand as needed over the years as Batman adapts his equipment to new technology.

2 Titans Tower: Teen Titans/Titans

DC Comics Teen Titans Tower

Built on an island outside of Manhattan, Titans Tower is the home for the Teen Titans, later known as the Titans. It is a functional headquarters with a hanger, submarine pen, and various training facilities. There are even living quarters for those members that choose to use them.

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, it was the only base that could fit all of the heroes that were at the dawn of time battling the Anti-Monitor. The island also has plenty of room for outdoor training, should the need arise.

1 JLA Satellite: Justice League of America

The Justice League Satellite was a master feat of engineering, created using various alien technologies at the Justice League's disposal. It incorporated teleporters that became a staple of future headquarters for the League and its various incarnations. Some members, like Batman and Green Arrow, felt it made the League too distant from the ordinary people of Earth.

It also made the Justice League feel too safe at times. Eventually, White Martians rendered the satellite unusable. During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the headquarters saw its last use, breaking up after an analysis of the injured Red Tornado resulted in a massive explosion.
