"Texas Rising" star Johnathon Schaech has joined "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" as Jonah Hex. Schaech will appear in the 11th episode of the show's first season as a guest star, with the possibility to recur.

Here's the official character description: "A true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future, but is at home in the Wild West. He's been battling outlaws and gangs for a while now, and advises the team to be extra careful when they arrive in the small town of Salvation."

"Ever since we decided that 'Legends' would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West," executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in an earlier statement. "But if you're going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We're thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television."

Schaech is no stranger to the Old West. In addition to "Texas Rising," which chronicles the formation of the Texas Rangers, he has appeared in "To Appomattox," a Civil War drama. His past credits also include "Takers," "Quantico" and "Quarantine," among others.

Just last week, Schaech tweeted about his audition for the role:

As DC's premier Old West antihero, Jonah Hex has been the star of a number of long-running comics, most recently the New 52 title "All-Star Western." The character was created by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga and debuted in 1972's "All-Star Western" #10. Josh Brolin previously portrayed the character in a live-action feature film, released in 2010. The movie failed to connect with fans or critics, only grossing $10.9 million domestically. Thomas Jane voiced the character in the animated short "DC Showcase: Jonah Hex," which was paired with the 2010 animated feature "Batman: Under the Red Hood."

Premiering this Thursday, "Legends of Tomorrow" stars Caity Lotz as White Canary, Brandon Routh as the Atom, Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein (one-half of Firestorm), Franz Drameh as Jefferson "Jax" Jackson (the other half of Firestorm), Ciara Renee as Hawkgirl and Arthur Darvill as time-traveler Rip Hunter.
