The CW has canceled one more Arrowverse superhero series, DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

News that the show would not return for an eighth season was broken by the LoTWritersRoom official Twitter on Friday, sharing an open letter to fans that reads, "Alright, sit down. This is gonna hurt." It continues, "We're cancelled. This has been the journey of a lifetime for all of us. The little show that wasn't supposed to be, grew into the show that could be anything it wanted... We will desperately miss creating this show, but most of all we will miss getting to make it together and sharing it with you."

The letter concludes, "Legends Never Die!" and is signed, "The Legends Writers' Room." The image of the letter is accompanied by the text of the tweet, reading, "Thank you for being the greatest fans and sticking with us for seven seasons \ Once a Legend, always a Legend."

Legends' cancellation comes just hours after it was announced that The CW's Batwoman would not be renewed for a fourth season. Showrunner Caroline Dries tweeted to say, "Just got the sad news that [Batwoman] will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you."

On March 22, The CW announced that it had renewed seven of its 19 scripted original series, including Legends' Arrowverse shows The Flash and Superman & Lois for their respective ninth and third seasons, respectively. However, Batwoman and Legends were notably left out, and on April 14, the LoTWritersRoom Twitter rallied fans for a #RenewLegendsofTomorrow campaign, with the aim of "[drumming] up support and good vibes for a Season 8 renewal," explaining, "While we don't think we're in trouble, we want to make sure the whole world (cough cough a certain network) knows what a special, weird little goblin of a TV show this is."

Legends of Tomorrow premiered in early 2016 as a spinoff series featuring characters from both Arrow and The Flash and adding several new ones. On March 2 this year, Legends wrapped up its seventh season with its 110th episode, "Knocked Down, Knocked Up," which was notable for finally introducing the DC character Michael Jon Carter/Booster Gold to the Arrowverse, with Scrubs alum Donald Faison stepping into the role.

With a number of cliffhangers in its Season 7 finale and a devoted fan base, DC's Legends of Tomorrow is sure to be missed by many superhero fans.
