This month fans picked up the first issue of Batman from writer James Tynion IV, who took over the series after Tom King's lengthy run with plans to take Batman in a bold, new direction. James Tynion IV is no stranger to Gotham City and the Bat-family and has worked with the characters a few times before. We've seen a few crossovers now between Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Tynion, with the first now collected in this Deluxe Edition.
He was also the creative force behind Detective Comics in the Rebirth era that saw Batman form a team of Gotham allies led by Batwoman and Tim Drake/Red Robin that featured other characters like Cassandra Cain/Orphan, Clayface, Azrael, and Stephanie Brown/Spoiler.
DARK DAYS & DARK NIGHTS
Tynion worked frequently with collaborator Scott Snyder, who has previously had his own celebrated run on Batman in the New 52 era. His run culminated in the DC event Dark Nights: Metal and Tynion worked with Snyder and a team of talented writers on the main event and connected series that lead to the event.
Fans should start with Dark Days: The Road To Metal to get a good idea of what they are in for with the event before jumping into Dark Nights: Metal - Dark Knights Rising to learn about one of DC's most terrifying new characters - The Batman Who Laughs - and his team of dark multiverse Batmen.
NO JUSTICE & JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK
Following the events of Dark Nights: Metal, Snyder wrapped up his Batman run and moved over to the Justice League series with the No Justice event, where he again worked with Tynion to lay the groundwork for his JL plans.
Tynion would bring fans his own version of DC's most popular team with the newest iteration of the Justice League Dark, led by Wonder Woman and featuring some of the most powerful magical characters in the DC universe like Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and of course, Detective Chimp.
