DC Comics publishes some of the best comic book characters of all time, like Superman, Batman, and Harley Quinn. While these characters are amazing on their own, they are strengthened thanks to their relationships and marriages to other fantastic characters like Lois Lane, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy.

These heroes and villains have been involved in some of the longest and strongest relationships in DC Comics. There are many great couples in the DC universe, but those that have endured the most hardships and grown together, taking vows and saying "I do," are the most iconic DC couples. The books wouldn't be the same if characters like Aquaman and Mera or Green Arrow and Black Canary weren't together.

10 Black Canary & Green Arrow Are A Legendary Duo

The wedding of Green Arrow and Black Canary in DC Comics

Despite their legacy as one of the best couples in DC Comics, Black Canary and Green Arrow were originally an unlikely pairing. The heroes first met in Justice League of America #21 when the League of Earth-One crossed over with the Justice Society of Earth-Two. They even fought each other in one of their earliest meetings. Arrow expressed his love for Canary in DC's Silver Age, and she eventually reciprocated those feelings in JLA #81.

After decades of love and drama, the two married in Green Arrow and Black Canary Wedding Special #1 and remained together for many years. In 2011, fans were rightfully upset when the New 52 erased Arrow and Canary's shared history, but they were thankfully reunited during DC's Rebirth era.

9 Apollo & Midnighter Reunited Following The New 52

Apollo and Midnighter may not be as recognizable as other DC heroes like Superman or Batman, but they're one of the best couples in the DC universe. The duo first met as members of StormWatch and developed a close romantic relationship.

In 2002, in The Authority #29, Midnighter and Apollo got married and became the first same-sex married couple in superhero comics. Like many married couples following the New 52, however, their marriage was erased from the timeline. Thankfully, the two are still together, and perhaps they can renew their vows in the Post-Rebirth era.

8 Superman & Lois Lane Are DC's Most Iconic Couple

Both Superman and Lois Lane debuted in 1938's Action Comics #1, and the sparks between them were clear from day one. Over decades of publication, the two developed a close romantic relationship. The Silver Age featured many gag storylines such as Superman dating a mermaid or Lois Lane gaining superpowers, but their relationship really solidified in the Bronze Age.

In 1996, the couple finally married in Superman: The Wedding Album. Superman and Lois are DC's most iconic couple, and fans were justifiably upset when their relationship was retconned in the New 52. However, the Superman and Lois from the Post-Crisis timeline returned and have remained since the beginning of DC's Rebirth era.

7 Aquaman & Mera Rule Atlantis Together

Aquaman is one of DC Comics' earliest characters, debuting in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941. Over the years, his powers have grown alongside his wife, Mera. In modern comics, Mera is a force to be reckoned with. She has the ability to manipulate forms of water and is one of the strongest DC heroes on Earth.

Mera and Aquaman are the definition of a power couple. The two heroes were married in Aquaman #18 in 1964, making them King and Queen of Atlantis, and have remained one of DC's best couples, despite some periods of separation, such as the New 52.

6 Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy Make Each Other Better

Harley Quinn debuted in Batman: The Animated Series and was infatuated with the Joker in many of her earliest appearances. Episodes like "Harley and Ivy" and "Holiday Knights" established a close friendship between Harley and Poison Ivy that would one day grow into a romantic relationship.

To this day, their relationship is a big part of their development from villains to anti-heroes. While Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are together in DC's main continuity, they got married in Injustice: Year Zero #8. With the couple also getting married in the Harley Quinn animated series, it may not be long before the pair take their vows in the main comic book timeline as well.

5 Hawkman & Hawkgirl's Love Spans Lifetimes

Hawkman and Hawkgirl have a long history together. The two are forever caught in a chain of reincarnation, resurrecting in new bodies after their deaths, but no matter what body they wake up in, no matter where they are in the world, Carter Hall and Shiera Sanders always find each other.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl's relationship is one of DC Comics' most romantic love stories. The two earliest versions of the characters were the Prince and Princess of Ancient Egypt, and their Golden Age reincarnated versions also got married.

4 Batman & Catwoman's Relationship Dates Back To The Golden Age

Batman Catwoman Wedding

Batman and Catwoman are two people who deserve to be together, but rarely find happiness due to their extracurricular activities as a Gotham's protector and a criminal mastermind, respectively. Catwoman first appeared in Batman #1 in 1940, and the two shared their first kiss several issues later. Selina Kyle has become an integral part of the Batman mythos, playing pivotal roles in books like "Year One" and "Hush."

Alternate versions of the characters got married in universes like the Golden Age Earth-Two and the New 52 Earth 2. After the two nearly tied the knot in Tom King's Batman series, they finally got married in Batman/Catwoman #12.

3 Adam Strange & Alanna Found Love Across The Stars

Adam Strange and Alanna get married on Rann

The Golden Age of comics introduced the world to the very first superheroes like Superman and Batman, but the Silver Age featured characters much more rooted in science fiction. The Flash was a scientist, Green Lantern was a space cop, and Adam Strange was a sci-fi adventurer transported to the alien world known as Rann.

There, Adam fell in love with a resident woman named Alanna, and the two eventually got married on Rann in Justice League of America #120. Alanna is a brilliant scientist who joined Adam on his many adventures and the two have become powerful, deep-space allies to the League.

2 Wally West & Linda Park's Love Has Saved Their Lives

Wally West marries Linda Park

Barry Allen and Iris West are an iconic couple, but they may not be the greatest couple in the Flash Family. After Barry died in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wally West, formerly known as Kid Flash, donned the red suit and became the new Flash for over two decades of adventures. During that time, Wally met and fell in love with Linda Park, a Keystone City reporter.

Wally and Linda eventually got married in The Flash vol. 2 #142, "Get Me to the Church on Time." The Speed Force is a powerful tool, but it can be dangerous for speedsters. On several occasions, including Flash: Rebirth, Wally ventured into the Speed Force and used Linda as his "lightning rod" to safely ground himself back in reality.

1 Big Barda & Mister Miracle Are True Partners In Everything They Do

Mister Miracle and Big Barda enjoy a sunset

Scott Free, a.k.a. Mister Miracle, lived a pretty harsh life on Apokolips after he was used as a bargaining chip to establish peace between Darkseid and the forces of New Genesis. Big Barda similarly experienced hardships growing up in the pits of Apokolips. The two met in the pits, teamed up, and escaped the fiery planet together.

Scott and Barda got married in Mister Miracle #18 in 1974 and have remained one of DC's most iconic and dedicated couples. Their relationship was beautifully explored in Tom King and Mitch Gerads' Mister Miracle limited series as they navigated the ups and downs of marriage and parenthood all while fighting an intergalactic war.
