As is the case with films, it’s impossible to include every detail of a character. Wonder Woman has not only a rich history, but a very complex one. Many DC characters have had their stories rebooted again and again, and Diana Prince is no exception.

With so many tales that comprise her life, she will never be able to have her entire backstory summed up on the screen. However, knowing these facts going into the movies rounds out the characters that much more. There are countless details that even true fans don’t know about Diana Prince’s backstory.

10 Some Of Her Life Is Made Up Of False Memories

When the New 52 relaunch happened and shook up the DC Universe, DC Rebirth followed soon after to restore some of the old universe and ensure that these new rattling shifts would at least have some backstory to them. Wonder Woman’s entire life was changed with the New 52 relaunch, and many of these changes remained through Rebirth.

Part of her childhood, as it turned out, had been completely fabricated. Not only that, but some of her experiences in the world of men had even been fabricated, and it wasn’t until Wonder Woman: Rebirth that Diana Prince was able to begin sorting through this new aspect of her life. Then, she began seeking her real memories.

9 Doctor Manhattan Fixed Her Timeline

Many fans sometimes forget that the Watchmen were officially integrated into the DC Universe. As they began as a commentary on the DC characters, it's worth noting they are actually a part of the universe they were once analyzing. The Watchmen team got even more involved when the Doomsday Clock made its appearance in the DC universe.

The limited series Doomsday Clock ran from 2018 until 2020 and was created by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. Doomsday Clock showed Doctor Manhattan manipulating the DC Universe timeline more than once. Early on, he changes Diana’s life so she can go to the world of man later; by the end of the story, Doctor Manhattan fixes the timeline, and Diana has still been involved with the world of men since the early 20th century.

8 Her Family Is Larger Than Anyone Thought

Many know that Diana Prince is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta of Themyscira. As far as Diana knows in the DCEU, she was sculpted out of clay by her mother and the gods granted her life. However, in the comics, this origin has been shifted a bit. While this is what Diana seems to know, there’s more to her story.

Her false memories have been concealing the fact that Hippolyta actually had an affair with Zeus, and felt the need to hide this information. In order to protect Diana from the wrath of the gods — Hera especially — her true origin was hidden. Not only that, it was also revealed that Diana had a twin brother.

After Hippolyta and Zeus conceived Diana, Hippolyta could feel that she was carrying multiple children and that one of them would be a male child. Because Themyscira is an island composed solely of women, Hippolyta knew it would be impossible to hide her son from the wrath of Hera in such a place.

As such, she asked the immortal Glaucus, once an Argonaut, to raise her son and train him to be a great hero much like Diana would become. Hippolyta requested that Glaucus name this son Jason, after the famous hero who led the Argonauts.

6 She Constantly Has To Fight The Gods

The god Ares isn’t the only god that Diana consistently has to fight in the comics and the movies. While Ares is the main villain of Wonder Woman (2017), there are many gods that are constantly meddling in Wonder Woman’s affairs — or vice versa. Throughout the years, she’s also gotten involved with other heroes like her father, Zeus, and figures like Hephaestus, Hera, and Hermes. Learning her true backstory was a blow to Diana, but it also explained her god-blood. She even frequently fights Hades himself, though this does end up becoming a bit more complicated for her in her life.

5 Diana Even Loved A God

The love of Wonder Woman is something many characters have sought over the years. Diana Prince loves the world of men, but she often finds it difficult to completely relate to them. Beyond Steve Trevor, humans are an enigma to Diana, though one she loves. She also, at one point, loves Hades. The two of them are even engaged, and Hades can’t even process how much she loves him.

Wonder Woman explains that she has the capacity to love everyone, no matter what, even someone like Hades; he was so shocked and horrified by the fact that Diana loves him unconditionally that she’s unable to confront him directly. Her love is so strong that she’s able to help push even someone like Hades to look within themselves for something worth loving.

4 She Will Always Found The Justice League

Every time DC has rebooted their own universe, they have changed a great amount of information about every character. DC shows little hesitation retconning huge events, which makes fans a bit nervous when it happens. With her entire story getting shifted and changed around with the New 52 and DC Rebirth, it seemed that Wonder Woman’s entire origin might be changed.

As it turned out, though, some things will always stay the same. As Diana recovered her memories and was able to piece together the true reality through her false memories, she realized that she had actually been one of the founding Justice League members. No matter what, Diana will always be one of the original founding members, through reboots and fresh starts.

3 Wonder Woman Can Stop Darkseid

Darkseid may have been cut from the DCEU, but it seems that he’ll be making his grand return in the Snyder Cut of Justice League. If he does appear, fans are hoping that Wonder Woman might be the one to stop him. In the comics, after Wonder Woman enters the world of man, her and the other members of the Justice League are forced to confront one of their earliest and most terrifying foes: Darkseid. Wonder Woman’s role in his destruction cannot be understated. Diana is the one who stabbed him in the eye to prevent him using his powers against them, thus allowing the Justice League to finally incapacitate him.

2 Diana Is An Ambassador To The World Of Man

Diana Prince isn’t just invested in protecting the world of man, nor is she simply just curious about them, though she is both of these things. Wonder Woman also has an official role in defending the world of man, as she was officially sent from Themyscira as an ambassador between them and men. Being the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and the god Zeus, she’s one of the most powerful figures on this planet, and so it’s not surprising she would be chosen as an ambassador. She has an official role beyond superhero, and even has a separate job as Wonder Woman than she does as her alter ego. As Wonder Woman, she and Steve Trevor, who often acts as her liaison, strive to connect Themyscira with the world of man.

1 Her Secret Identity As A Government Agent

When Diana is trying to go incognito, she has an entirely separate set of skills. Of course, as Wonder Woman, she has incredible weapons and even more innate strength. She has to hide these abilities when she’s masquerading as the human Diana Prince, however. As Diana Prince, she doesn’t always work in a museum, like fans see in the Patty Jenkins movies. In the comics, Diana Prince often works as an agent in the governmental Department of Metahuman Affairs.
