The Young and the Restless star Sasha Calle will play Supergirl in the upcoming Flash solo film.

"I saw more than four hundred auditions. The US,Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia," director Andy Muschietti told Deadline. "The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role." Notably, none of those auditioning were told which role they were trying out for.

Supergirl is just the latest addition to a Flash film that's expected to draw from Flashpoint and feature multiversal elements. This includes multiple Batman in Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.

The road to production on The Flash has been rocky at best. In 2015, Phil Lord and Chris Miller signed on to write the story treatment while Seth Grahame-Smith was tapped to write and direct. The latter departed in 2016 and was soon replaced by Rick Famuyiwa. However, he too left the project the following year due to creative differences. The studio then commissioned a script rewrite by Joby Harold and in 2018, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were announced as the new directors. Once again, though, there was a shakeup and in August 2020, Andy Muschietti was named the latest director to take a stab at The Flash. There were even reports at one point that Miller himself was working on the script along with Grant Morrison.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle and Billy Crudup. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 4, 2022.
