Writer Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us) has been teasing DC's upcoming DCeased event for months now, with the most recent previews hinting at the far-reaching effects of the event. But fans didn't have a concrete idea about what was coming until now. DC has formally announced the story as a fullblown event, along with some of the details about the plot.

The event will center around the heroes of the DC Universe being assaulted by a terrifying disease with disastrous effects. The synopsis for the event states:

"A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction. The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first... but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?"

Previous previews have shown Superman trying to contend with the chaos caused by the outbreak of the virus. Others have hinted that not even someone as strong as Darkseid will be immune to the disease. No matter what the virus does to the world, it's shaping up to be one of the deadliest DC events in recent memory.

DCeased #1, written by Taylor and with art by Trevor Hairsine (Legends of the Dark Knight) and Stefano Gaudiano (The Walking Dead) is scheduled to be released May. 1.
