The remaining heroes of the DCeased DC Universe have been contending with terrible tragedies for years, with many of their friends and loved ones falling to the Blighted-Ones created by the Anti-Life Virus. Now, it may have even gotten the chance to spread even further through them, all because of one hero and her soft-heart.

A kind decision from Mary Marvel may have just opened up the possibility of a Blighted-One spreading the Anti-Life Virus through the Gotham Jungle, one of humanity's last true sanctuaries.

DCeased Green Arrow Mary Marvel

Since returning to Earth, the few heroes still alive in the world of DCeased have been working to find a cure for the highly contagious plague. This has carried over to follow the dictates set by Poison Ivy, who's Gotham Jungle has proven surprisingly durable in the face of the Blighted-One hordes. This means the heroes have to follow her commands and respect her rules, which include not harming the plants around her domain. Most of all, however, the strictest rule has been to resist any and all forms of attack by the Blighted-Ones. It doesn't matter that the heroes may have found the key to unlocking a cure for the Anti-Life Virus, Ivy refuses to risk the lives of herself, her loved ones and everyone in the Gotham Jungle for the presence of a single Blighted-One.

But this means that she almost immediately has a conflict with the Justice League. Upon arriving on Earth, the group was brought low by the Blighted-Wonder Woman. While the team was largely able to restrain her, it wasn't before she'd infected Green Arrow. So far, the threat of the Blighted-Green Arrow has been countered by Black Canary, who uses her Green Lantern Ring to create a bubble around her infected husband. but Ivy refuses to allow Green Arrow into the Gotham Jungle, forcing Black Canary to wait outside the safe-zone so she can keep an eye on Green Arrow. But with the team needing her assistance to venture into the cosmos and find Metron, she's wary of leaving her husband behind.

That's where Mary Marvel comes in. She promises to sneak Green Arrow into the Tower of Fate for protection. They'll hide this from Poison Ivy, and keep Green Arrow safe and sound until Black Canary returns. As she says this, the Blighted-Green Arrow listens intently, seemingly aware that he might be getting a very specific opening. The Anti-Life Virus has been controlling all the infected peoples of Earth to great effect over the course of the outbreak, using superpowers and advanced skills to great effect. Green Arrow may only be a man, but with his aim at its disposal, the Anti-Life Virus might be able to take advantage of any opening.

The prospect of the virus spreading to the Gotham Jungle is terrifying when considered. Especially if it started by getting from Green Arrow to someone like Doctor Fate, there would be little recourse to stopping them that wouldn't cost the survivors their home and perhaps their lives. In an act of kindness and empathy, Mary Marvel may have given the Blighted Ones the opening against the Gotham Jungle that they've been trying to claim for years -- and in the process, dooming what remains of humanity.
