WARNING: The following contains spoilers for DCeased: Dead Planet #2 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Gigi Baldassini, Rain Beredo amd Saida Temofonte, on sale now.

The world of DCeased is a dangerous place to be a superhero, as many heroes learned as an Anti-Life infection ravaged a DC Universe in 2019's DCeased. Now, the follow-up series picks up five years after Earth's surviving heroes left behind their fallen world, which was overrun by a technological version of the Anti-Life Equation that was originally unleashed by Cyborg. In DCeased: Dead Planet #1, we find out that life has survived on our overrun, infected planet, and Cyborg was able to send out a signal to the heroes on Earth-2 to let them know that survivors and a cure could still be found on Earth.

On the final pages of the first issue, Green Arrow becomes infected, and Superman, Jonathan Kent, is critically wounded. And in DCeased: Dead Planet #2, Green Arrow's longtime partner, Roy Harper, is on patrol on the rooftops, keeping watch for the infected. But almost as soon as his watch begins, it ends at the hands of another veteran Justice League member who meets her own demise.

Since he was created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp in 1941's More Fun Comics #73, Roy Harper has been in teams like the  Teen Titans, Checkmate, the Suicide Squad, the Outsiders and the Justice League of America. When Harper locates a horde of the Infected charging to a location that houses more survivors, he tells everyone to get back into the bunker and barricade the doors. A little girl, Gracie, stops Harper and asks him if the monsters are going to get them. Harper reassures Gracie that he won't let anything happen to her or anyone else. Another survivor points to the sky in warning, but before Harper can do anything, he is engulfed in a bright green flame.

Unfortunately for Roy, that green flame belongs to an infected Fire, the Brazillian hero who was once a supermodel and a Justice League International member. For three panels, we watch as Roy Harper burns, while the remaining survivors scramble to find safety.

DCeased Fire

Just before the remaining survivors are infected, John Constantine and the newly reformed Shadowpact, which includes Blue Devil, Ragman, Detective Chimp, Ravager, Red Hood, and Zatanna, appear. The Shadowpact has been magically locating survivors and relocating them to safer places since the end of the original series. As the Shadowpact jumps into action, Zatanna casts a spell that extinguishes Fire's green flames, and the infected hero slams into the side of a building and instantly dies.

Within the first couple pages of DCeased: Dead Planet #2, two ex-Justice Leaguers are killed off in rather uncelebrated ways. Fire's death is only seen in the background over Constantine's shoulder. None of the characters react to Fire's death or seem affected, even though Fire saved the world dozens of times over.

After the Shadowpact tries to find a new safe place for the survivors, a new threat rises up at the end of DCeased: Dead Planet #2. Three more major heroes characters are killed by a new evil threat, which underscores just how deadly the world of DCeased really is, even for the World's Greatest Heroes.
