Ever since the DC Extended Universe’s version of Wonder Woman exploded into popularity, she’s been compared to the version seen in the live-action TV series. These comparisons do have merit, but perhaps the title of being the best version belongs to the DC Animated Universe Wonder Woman.

This incarnation of the character was the most complete one shown so far, having undergone a journey of character development where she learned how to survive in the universe at large. During this time, she had a number of sayings that were poignant, cool, and steeped in realism. Here are 10 quotes from the DCAU Wonder Woman and the reasoning behind their quality.

10 "Red Hair, It Suits You."

This version of The Flash is considered to be the best there is, and that was possible because of the connection he made with the Justice League. One of the members he was closest to was Wonder Woman, who treated him like a little brother rather than a teammate.

While Flash was initially reluctant to show his true identity during the Thanagarian invasion, Wonder Woman ensured he didn’t feel ashamed, as she instantly took to complimenting his features. This provided Flash with assurance that he was among friends, and Wonder Woman made it clear she accepted him as a person first and as a superhero second.

9 "No Dating For The Batman. Might Cut Into Your Brooding Time."

It’s a shame this couple didn’t become an official thing, as their chemistry is such that people even want the DCEU version to get together. In the DCAU, Batman and Wonder Woman scenes were laced with romantic tension.

She was the one to make it clear she was interested in him, as Wonder Woman saw through his rough exterior by claiming he didn’t want to date anyone because he preferred to brood instead. After initially being clueless in love, it was nice to see how confident she eventually became.

8 "And What's Wrong With The Way I Dress?"

The character gets a lot of flak for the costume she wears, as it has been deemed to be too revealing. Even in the DCAU, Wonder Woman was at the end of verbal abuse on the news when she was called immodest.

However, rather than let others bully her, she called them out on it. After all, her costume was never meant to be seductive, and by challenging her critics she was making it clear that they were either objectifying her without cause, or without understanding who she really was.

7 "Sorry If I Scared You..."

Originally, Wonder Woman possessed an extremely naive personality, to the point where she would apologize for anything she might have done wrong, even when she hadn’t. Later, though, she developed into quite the snarker herself.

In this instance, her piloting of the vessel they were traveling on became rather reckless, prompting Batman to point this out. Rather than genuinely apologize this time, Wonder Woman instead sarcastically said she was sorry for having scared Batman of all people. It was one of those instances that solidified how at ease she had become around her league members.

6 "Those Are The Biggest, Slowest Bullets I've Ever Seen."

DCAU Wonder Woman Batman

Despite being supremely powerful and having a vast array of weaponry and skills, Wonder Woman was routinely at the end of sexist comments where men didn’t take her seriously. In this instance, she was once again spoken to as if she were only there for eye candy.

In response, Wonder Woman unleashed her powers, scaring the men into shooting at her. However, she was more than enough to contend with this, using her wrist braces to casually shrug the bullets off. In order to pile on the humiliation, she uttered this quote to make it sound as if even the guns the men were holding were weak like they were.

5 "Why Would Anyone Want To Cover Up Her Natural Beauty?"

Sometimes speaking in simple terms makes things out to be far clearer than they seem, and the matter of beauty was nicely touched upon here. After stumbling upon a beauty shop, Wonder Woman was puzzled to see women buying all sorts of products.

Rather than indulge, she claimed that all this was just going to cover up the natural female beauty, something that rings true as embracing oneself is a far more attractive quality.

4 "If Only Aresia Could Have Seen The Noble Qualities In You Men...Maybe It's Just As Well."

The right kind of feminism is where women are appreciated for their strengths, but also acknowledge the worth of men rather than deem them as the enemy. Wonder Woman’s adoptive sister Aresia didn’t see this way, and it was her utter hatred for men that led to Aresia causing her own demise.

After acknowledging how over-the-edge Aresia had gone, Wonder Woman also gave tribute to Batman and the other men she worked with, thanking them for their nobility. What’s funny, though, is that Flash’s immediately immature response then made Wonder Woman believe it was a good thing Aresia wasn’t around to see him.

3 "Do I Look Like I'm Playing Games?"

She might have been kind and sweet for the most part, but hurting her friends meant unleashing the wrath of Wonder Woman. Toyman found this out the hard way, as he was held up by his throat after seemingly causing the death of Superman.

By this point, Wonder Woman wasn’t playing around anymore, and hoisted the villain up and stated she was going to punch a hole through his skull as retribution. She was stopped by Flash at the last second, although it was abundantly clear that Wonder Woman had it in her to use lethal means where villains deserved it.

2 "There Are Times Where Faith Is All We Have To Rely On."

Wonder Woman’s arc through Justice League Unlimited was about her shedding her naivete and accepting that not everything could be explained. However, she was still right in retaining the faith she grew up with, something she taught her teammates.

There were many occasions where they weren’t able to help others, and it was Wonder Woman who told them that during these times having faith that things will work out was the best thing to do. Along with that, the level of trust she put in her teammates was something she learned through the faith she had in them.

1 "And The Adventure Continues."

It was Wonder Woman who closed out the DCAU as these were the final words spoken in the series. After they had defeated Darkseid and his forces, the Justice League headed out to capture all the other criminals that had escaped.

Here, as the heroes filed out one by one, Wonder Woman summed up what was to come in the future, and that was the promise of continuing the fight she and her friends had set out to do. In the end, she had understood what her purpose was.
