The DC Extended Universe is taking a definite turn toward better days with the release of several well-received films in the series. Even during bad times, there was no argument over the DCEU's Batman. He was lauded for his brutality and style, making him worthy of being spoken in the same breath as the DC Animated version.

The animated Batman has been the favorite for fans who watched Justice League Unlimited and its preceding shows, and Kevin Conroy’s vocal brilliance served to elevate the character to legendary levels. This makes a fantasy match-up between the DCAU and DCEU Batmen an interesting one, so we’re here to put that to the test.

10 Willing To Kill: DCEU Batman

Although in an unrelated universe, it was best said in The Dark Knight that when criminals became wise to Batman’s act, that he had rules and wouldn’t go for the kill, he lost a lot of his power. The DCAU version followed these same rules religiously; not so much for the DCEU version.

After becoming disillusioned by criminals still committing atrocious acts despite his intervention, the DCEU Batman took to using lethal means to end his opponents. In a match-up between the two versions, the DCEU one won’t hold back and we saw how he had Superman, of all people, down for the count.

9 Feats: DCAU Batman

In the animated universe, the only one to have the distinction of avoiding Darkseid’s Omega beams was Batman, with the ruler of Apokolips being amazed at this himself. Batman also took down Sinestro with just one Batarang, while he’d earlier taken out the likes of Clayface, Thanagarian soldiers, and pseudo-Martian invaders by himself.

We’ve been informed that the DCEU Batman also faced the usual foes from his rogue's gallery, including Penguin, Catwoman, and Joker. However, this Batman hasn’t had the sheer volume of enemies his counterpart faced, with the animated one having been as far out in the universe as New Genesis.

8 Fear Factor: Tied

Continuing from the earlier point of Batman being willing to kill, that part of him makes him the worst nightmare of criminals in Gotham as there’s nothing stopping them from being bat food. Although that seems hard to top, the DCAU version managed to conjure the same fear without having to kill.

He had a remarkable ability to use darkness as his ally, to the point where you couldn’t see his figure and only those two slits for eyes would appear from within the shadows, accompanied by his foreboding voice that instantly brought fear to those he targeted. The DCEU version also made use of this feature, meaning both Batmen have this point in the bag.

7 Back-Up: DCAU Batman

The Justice League is readily available for either Batman should they call on them, with the mightiest members fit to go. However, the DCEU one only has the core Justice League members to call on while the animated version has a league all but unlimited in numbers.

The DCAU version also has options from his direct allies in Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin as well, making his back-up the most enviable. The DCEU Justice League also was nowhere near to being refined either, and they would need a world full of practice to be able to beat the DCAU one that was able to beat Darkseid and his forces.

6 Physically Imposing: DCEU Batman

Batman-DCEU

Those who had become used to The Dark Knight Trilogy Batman were surprised to see the most recent live-action one looking enormous enough to kill anyone with his bare hands and, coupled with his mastery in martial arts, he seemed impossible to overpower by any normal human.

The DCAU Batman was also stronger than most people and possessed fighting mastery that perhaps no-one else had, but we don’t see how he can overcome the beast of a Batman that is the DCEU one. This version also has the kind of brutality in his fighting methods that would complement his immense physicality.

5 Interrogation Skills: DCAU Batman

It wouldn’t be Batman if he didn’t know how to get information out of someone, terrifying his victim to the point where they spilled every detail. This is one area where the DCEU version has fallen short, since he’s been shown to favor violent means more than intimidating ones.

The DCAU Batman has become legendary for filling out highlight reels with his penchant to scare a criminal severely. He didn’t lose this ability with age either. When Deadshot, who had no fear of Superman or Wonder Woman, met Batman it took only two seconds for the latter to get him talking. His methods even seemed to frighten Superman. It didn't matter if the person before him spoke the same language or not, because everyone had the same fear once Batman began his interrogation.

4 Technology & Gadgets: Tied

We’re going to have to make this one a tie, even though the DCEU Batman hasn’t showcased a large variety of gadgets, simply because of the incredible Batsuit he wore in the fight against Superman. While the Man of Steel could’ve finished this suit up if he’d wanted to, there’s no doubt this Batsuit was unparalleled technology.

The DCAU Batman’s utility belt seemed to have something stashed for all occasions, and its safety protocols were such that Lex Luthor took hours to crack it open. We’ve already mentioned Batman having a Batarang handy that could defeat Sinestro too. His technological prowess was such that it was implied he had built the Binary Fusion Generator death ray built in the Watchtower that had the power to fry anything it attacked.

3 Enemy Power Level: DCAU Batman

The DCEU Batman hasn’t been seen much so far, but he’s had some real heavyweights to go up against in his few appearances. We saw him take down Deadshot, Joker, Superman, and be part of the teams that beat Doomsday and Steppenwolf.

However, that’s still not enough to beat the level of enemies the DCAU version fought successfully, with names such as AMAZO, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, a better version of the Joker, all of Batman’s rogues gallery, Brainiac, and even his own teammates on occasion. The animated versions of these enemies were also far more powerful than their counterparts in live-action.

2 Batmobile: DCEU Batman

What’s a Batman without a Batmobile? Every incarnation has been handed one of these beauties, with both versions in question having gorgeous Batmobiles of their own. The winner has to be the live-action one, however, which appeared to be an absolute monster.

It was able to contend with Darkseid’s (Steppenwolf-commanded) forces and looked bigger than a freakin’ tank. The sight of this version of the Batmobile would be enough to scare off entire armies. The DCAU version was sparingly used by Batman later on in the series, much less for offensive purposes as he mostly just used it as snazzily intimidating transportation.

1 Winner: DCAU Batman

Maybe The Batman in 2021 might change our minds when the time comes, but for now, the DCAU Batman has too rich of a history to be beaten by the still-impressive DCEU Batman. Since the animated Batman contended with enemies that were far and wide from across time and space, his expertise can’t be overlooked.

The DCEU Batman might have strength and a mean streak on in his favor, but the DCAU Batman has worthier allies, a sharper mind, makes more use of his resources, and is a more well-rounded character. For the time being, the animated Batman will come out as the victor in a potential contest.
