The following contains spoilers for Black Adam, now playing in theaters.

DC Comics writer J. M. DeMatteis has shared that he has no clue why he was given a "Special Thanks" credit in Black Adam.

In an Oct. 13 post on his personal Twitter account, DeMatteis wrote, "Well, apparently [Keith] Giffen, [Kevin Maguire] and I are thanked in the Black Adam end credits (along with many other DC creators) but, not having seen the movie, I have no idea why!" The writer shared an image of Black Adams' end credits which, in addition to showing every DC creator that was thanked in the film, prematurely revealed Henry Cavill's return as Superman. Right below the "Special Thanks" portion of the credits, there is a message talking about the Man of Steel's inclusion in the film and how his appearance was by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel family.

Maguire also recently saw Black Adam and tweeted very similar remarks, explaining that he also has no clue why Giffen, DeMatteis and himself were credited. "Maybe there were a lot of deleted scenes," the artist added, suggesting that the answer to why they were credited lies in footage that did not make the final cut of the film.

While DeMatteis might have been confused over why he was thanked in Black Adam, DC fans were quick to point out that his work with Giffen on DC's Doctor Fate run between 1987 and 1991 probably snagged him the credit. The character made his DC Extended Universe debut in Black Adam, portrayed by James Bond's Pierce Brosnan. He appeared as a member of the Justice Society of America, alongside Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone, and Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher.

Black Adam Welcomes Back Henry Cavill

Following months of rumors, Cavill officially returned to the DCEU as Clark Kent/Superman in Black Adam's mid-credits scene. Although his return was leaked ahead of the film's release, fans were still excited to see the actor once again embody the role. Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson, who is also a producer on the film, previously revealed that Cavill's return was made possible because of the fans who never stopped being "so passionate and vocal" about wanting to see Cavill back in the role that shot him to stardom. The actor also shared that Black Adam's Superman cameo is meant to set up a future Black Adam vs. Superman film.
