James Gunn and Peter Safran compared the upcoming Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost, for the DC Universe to another fantasy epic.

While unveiling the new slate of DC films and shows, Gunn and Safran touched on the tone of Paradise Lost, which is set before the birth of Diana. Namely, Safran compared it to HBO's Game of Thrones. "This is a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira/Paradise Island, home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman," he said. "This involves all of the darkness, drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women."

Gunn elaborated on that point, noting that the series would explain how such a society made entirely of women came to be. "It's an origin story of how this society of women came about. What does it mean? What are their politics like? What are their rules? Who's in charge?" the director explained. "What are the games that they play with each other to get to the top? I think it's really exciting."

DC Studios Announces Upcoming Movies and TV Series

The duo, recently hired on as the co-heads of DC Studios, revealed the hotly anticipated slate of upcoming cinematic adaptations of its beloved comics. Along with the Wonder Woman prequel, Gunn and Safran announced DCU TV series Creature Commandos, an animated series; Waller, which follows Viola Davis' Amanda Waller in a live-action series set between Peacemaker Seasons 1 and 2; Booster Gold, a series about the fan-favorite time-traveler that wants to be a superhero, and Lanterns, which includes both Hal Jordan and John Stewart's takes on the hero.

For DC Studio's film slate, Gunn revealed his upcoming Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, will start the saga in 2025. Additional films include The Authority, Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing and The Brave and the Bold -- a Batman story featuring the hero as the father to an assassin son. Casting remains unknown for the films thus far, though with Matt Reeves' The Batman confirmed as its own continuity as part of the Elseworld franchise, it's suggested Robert Pattinson won't reprise the role for The Brave and the Bold.

Paradise Lost will be a live-action HBO Max series and features as part of DCU's Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." The series does not yet have casting details or a projected release date.
