The following article contains spoilers from DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War #4, on sale now from DC Comics.

In the annals of DC history, it's been hard to truly give Wonder Woman a worthy rival. Cheetah's been used a lot, as well as Giganta, with modern comics shaping Darkseid's daughter, Grail, as Diana of Themyscira's true test. However, Wonder Woman's usually found a way to get past them, due to her godlike and magical nature.

However, Mary Marvel in DCeased: Unkillables (by Tom Taylor and Karl Mostert) proved to be quite insurmountable, battering Diana and leaving folks thinking maybe if she became evil again, Mary would be the one to truly push Diana into the mainstream universe. Well, that hasn't happened, but in DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War, the rivalry has been spiritually reignited for a fleeting moment, resulting in a dark fate for Mary.

Mary Marvel beat Wonder Woman in Dceased

DCeased: Unkillables #3 (by Tom Taylor, Karl Mostert, Trevor Scott, Neil Edwards, Rex Lokus, and Saida Temofonte) unraveled a brutal fight after Mary tried to escort a bus filled with survivors to the garden the heroes kept in their zombie-ridden world. Jim Gordon was left trying to save humanity, but the Blighted Ones had the numbers. As such, the mutated Diana attacked, but Mary smacked her around in the sky, harnessing the power of Shazam.

She also had epic martial arts skills learned from the likes of Lady Shiva, resulting in her smashing Diana to the Earth and creating a massive shockwave. It stunned fans, but it was believable as Mary had the powers of multiple gods in her, as opposed to Diana who just had Zeus' blood. In time, though, Mary wouldn't be the one to kill Diana -- a Dinah Lance (with the powers of a Green Lantern) would, but it wasn't as brutal as when Mary embarrassed Diana in front of the horde, inflicting an intimidating beating.

DC vs. Vampires Confirms Wonder Woman's Revenge

Mary Marvel got bitten by Wonder Woman in DC vs. Vampires

While it's a totally separate universe, it's quite cerebral how this realm's Diana gets her revenge, and it's all due to Mary's big confession. Prometheus mind-controls her and has her turn back into her human form in DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War #4 (by Alex Paknadel, Matthew Rosenberg, Pasquale Qualano, Nicola Righi, and Troy Peteri). But when she turns, Mary's actually a vampire, now left apologizing to Booster Gold and her teammates as they tried to kidnap Weather Wizard from Nightwing's blood farm.

It turns out, Mary was bitten by Diana way before, but she hid in her magical form, keeping the bloodsucking side at bay. She remained ashamed, but admittedly, imprisoning her ravenous side has allowed her some measure of restraint. Still, Mary hates how she became a monster and that she was coerced so easily, scared into an offer to turn. Here, this Wonder Woman illustrates in the flashback, sometimes violence isn't always the way, and it suggests Mary might have done some despicable deeds she wants to forget. Luckily, Midnighter kills Prometheus and gets Mary to become her mystical self again, but it leaves fans wondering if she's a ticking time bomb who may revert due to the trauma and possible hold of the vampire kingdom afoot.
