WARNING: The following contains spoilers for DC Vs. Vampires #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

The comic book miniseries DC vs. Vampires takes place outside of the main continuity, making the DCU's most iconic heroes and villains fair game as the world's vampire community bands together to overrun the world's heroes. As first blood is literally and decisively drawn in the miniseries' opening issue, one longtime Justice League superhero has already been converted to the vampires' ravenous cause and struck out at the heroes from the safety of the Hall of Justice: The greatest Green Lantern of them all, Hal Jordan.

While vampires have existed in the DCU for centuries, there has never been a full-blown attempt by the bloodthirsty undead to take over the world, with the vampires' leader Mary, Queen of Blood, opting to keep the vampires operating mainly in the shadows. However, after a power struggle results in Mary being violently deposed by a more sinister faction of undead, the moves and motives of the vampires experience a drastic change. One prominent vampire that vehemently opposes the new agenda is Andrew Bennett, who warns both the Legion of Doom and the Justice League about what is transpiring in the vampire community. And in DC vs. Vampires #1 (by James Tynion IV, Matthew Rosenberg, Otto Schmidt and Tom Napolitano), Bennett learns that he is too late to alert either team, and the Justice League has already been compromised from within.

Vampire Green Lantern Traitor

When a desperate Bennett approaches the Hall of Justice after barely escaping with his life from the Hall of Doom, he is taken in by Green Lantern and escorted to the superhero facility's medical wing. As Bennett recounts the recent coup and ambitious agenda by the vampires' new leader to Hal, his story is interrupted by the arrival of Zan of the Wonder Twins. With Zan now aware of the power shift among the vampires and their new plans, Hal reveals himself to be a vampire before destroying both Zan and Bennett.

The circumstances of Jordan's conversion into a vampire are unknown but it's clear that he's working for a higher power as he immediately calls an unidentified benefactor to assure them that Bennett and all witnesses have been eliminated. Jordan shows no remorse about killing his fellow Justice League teammate and disposes of any remaining evidence in the Hall of Justice while also revealing that his Power Ring protects him from the deadly effects of sunlight.

Green Lantern Hal Jordan Vampire Ultraviolet Light

The vampire war has already come for the Justice League and cruelly exacted its first casualties without the superhero team even being aware that the undead threat is already among their ranks. In Hal Jordan, the vampires now have a cosmic ally with full access to the Hall of Justice and the trust and resources of the Justice League.

With the vampires immediately striking a detrimental blow to the League and rapidly tightening the noose around the heroes, Bennett's warning could result in a DCU where the undead finally stand triumphant.
