When the Big Two comic universes combined in the 90s for the hit crossover event Marvel vs. DC/DC vs. Marvel, fans never would have predicted the event would have resulted in the creation of the Amalgam universe.

Amalgam featured merged versions of Marvel and DC characters that resulted in some frighteningly scary combinations that were only partially explored in the limited amount of issues that were released during the event. So today we are going to take a further look at a few mashup characters to see who was the most powerful member of the Amalgam universe.

10 DARK CLAW

Logan Wayne was a famous New Gotham City artist with a mysterious past in the Royal Canadian Air Force, however, he was also the costumed crimefighter known as Dark Claw, an amalgamation of Wolverine and Batman.

This meant that not only did Dark Claw have the dangerous adamantium claws and unbeatable healing factor of Wolverine, but also the training, gadgets, and resources of the Batman to become one of Amalgam's most powerful creations.

9 SHATTERSTARFIRE

Another pairing that worked a little too well was Shatterstarfire, which occurred in the pages of Amalgam's X-Patrol, which mashed up members of X-Force and the Doom Patrol, though Starfire was always more of a Teen Titan than a Doom Patrol member.

Starfire was the dominant character in this merger with most of her powerful alien abilities intact, though her physiology was slightly different thanks to Shatterstar, making her a quicker and more agile warrior with the dual blades of Shatterstar and the star-bolts of Starfire.

8 SPEED DEMON

Not all characters were as easily split in two like Dark Claw or Shatterstarfire, as fans saw with Speed Demon, who was part Ghost Rider, part Barry Allen/Flash, and part Etrigan the Demon in one of Amalgam's most inspired characters.

Blaze Allen was forced into a deal with the devil, transforming him into a powerful demonic speedster with a talent for rhyme who worked alongside his sidekick and nephew Wally West/Kid Demon against the forces of Night Spectre (Nightmare/Spectre).

7 MAGNETO

The master of magnetism known as Erik Magnus/Magneto is incredibly powerful in any universe, though his brother in the Amalgam Universe was Dr. Will Magnus, who created the mutant-hunting Sentinels that wiped out Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants.

Magneto then used his abilities to rewrite his brother's robot machines to replace his Brotherhood, resulting in the creation of Magneto's Magnetic Men so he wouldn't lose any more live soldiers in his fight against his brother's Sentinels.

6 DOCTOR DOOMSDAY

It wasn't just the heroes of the Marvel and DC universes who were combined to create the Amalgam universe, but also the villains as well. One of the most dangerous and powerful mashups created the despotic Doctor Doomsday.

Doctor Doom was a Cadmus scientist investigating the alien known as Doomsday when he became infected and transformed into the monstrous Doctor Doomsday, who appeared in quite a few Amalgam comics.

5 IRON LANTERN

Iron Lantern

The mixture of Iron Man and Green Lantern saw engineer Hal Stark injured when an alien ship failed while beckoning him, causing him to crash before he learned what the alien needed and forcing him to build a suit of armor using the alien ship and mysterious energy battery he found inside.

Hal became Iron Lantern and used his high-tech suit of armor and powerful alien battery to fight crime using the high-tech gadgets of Tony Stark and the green energy constructs of Hal Jordan's power ring.

4 SUPER-SOLDIER

Clark Kent was the test subject for an experimental new super-soldier serum that was created using the genetic material of an alien corpse that had been discovered by the government, turning Kent into the powerful Super-Soldier.

Super-Soldier was a mixture of Captain America and Superman who retained many of Superman's abilities like super-strength, flight, and heat-vision, though he also wielded an S-Shield during WWII and later as a member of the Judgement League Avengers.

3 AMAZON

Amalgam Amazon

Ororo of Themyscira was a powerful metamutant with control over the weather who was saved and raised by the Amazons of Themyscira, who helped train Ororo in the use of her abilities and sent her out into the world as the Amazon known as Wonder Woman.

Not only was the mixture of Storm and Wonder Woman incredibly powerful on her own, but she was also trained in new ways of using her powers, such as the creation of her lasso of lightning that helped her to eventually lead the JLX, a metamutant spinoff of the JLA.

2 THORION OF THE NEW ASGODS

The New Gods of the DC Universe and the Asgardians of the Marvel Universe were merged to create the New Asgodians, with Orion and Thor of their respective universes also combining to create Thorion the Hunter.

As the son of Odin Highfather, Thorion was called to New ASgod to help fight off Thanosied's forces during Ragnarok, and he used the Enchanted Hammer of the Gods and powerful Astro-Force to sacrifice himself to save his worlds.

1 DOCTOR STRANGEFATE

Much like the aforementioned Speed Demon, Doctor Strangefate is actually a mixture of a few different powerful beings, with DC's Doctor Fate mixing with Marvel's Doctor Strange and Charles Xavier to become Doctor Strangefate.

Strangefate was a master of telepathic and mystical energies, and one of the few Amalgam characters to become aware of the merger and their former reality, causing him to actively fight against their return which would bring an end to his Amalgam universe.
