Captain Marvel has taken her place at the forefront of the Marvel Universe, proving herself to be one of the most powerful people to hold the mantle. Whether it be protecting the Earth from alien threats with Alpha Flight, battling alongside the Avengers, or out on her own solo adventures, Captain Marvel has more than proven capable of holding her own against the worst the universe has to throw at her. The Marvel Universe, at least.

The villains of DC might be a different story. These intimidating foes have proven to be some of the most dangerous villains in comics, challenging heroes whose powers rival and surpass Captain Marvel's own.

10 No Single Hero Can Match The Anti-Monitor

Anti-Monitor, Blackest Night

Captain Marvel is known for facing down powerful cosmic threats and the DC Universe is full of them. There are several of them that could easily defeat her and one of those is the Anti-Monitor. Easily one of the most powerful villains in the DC Multiverse, it took the heroes of five universes to defeat him the first time he showed up. That's a bit much for Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is powerful and skilled but none of that would help against a being as mighty as the Anti-Monitor. While she may be able to hurt him, there's no way she'd be able to defeat him on her own. That wouldn't stop her from trying but it would be futile.

9 Perpetua's Power Vastly Overshadows Captain Marvel's

Perpetua DC Comics

Another DC cosmic being who could easily defeat Captain Marvel is Perpetua. One of the Hands who helped create the DC Multiverse, Perpetua proved to be more than a match for any single hero. While she was defeated by the Batman Who Laughs, the only reason he was able to beat her was by taking over the body of a Doctor Manhattan-powered Batman from the Dark Multiverse.

Without that kind of godlike power, it would be impossible for Captain Marvel to even come close to hurting Perpetua. She would make short work of Captain Marvel, barely even noticing the hero's attacks.

8 Lex Luthor Is Smart Enough To Figure Out A Way To Beat Captain Marvel

Lex Luthor with a Superman figure

Captain Marvel is no slouch in the brains department but she's rarely faced anyone as intelligent as Lex Luthor on her own. Lex's intelligence overshadows just about anyone he comes up against and it's allowed him to hold his own against the most powerful heroes. Captain Marvel fits the powerful hero bill but she'd find it impossible to triumph against Luthor.

Luthor is one of Superman's greatest foes and is used to dealing with a being with nigh incomprehensible power. Captain Marvel is powerful but she's not on Superman's level and while she doesn't have any easy weaknesses to exploit, Luthor would still be able to use some of his less subtle anti-Superman plans to beat her.

7 The White Martians Would Prove Too Much For Captain Marvel

White Martians Resized

Captain Marvel is used to protecting the Earth from alien threats but the White Martians would be way too much for her. Each one is a potential Superman-level threat and while they have a rather simple weakness, fire, they have a lot of powers that more than make up for it. With their shapeshifting skills, they'd be able to surround her and before she knew it, she'd be embroiled in battle.

Their best weapon against Captain Marvel would be their telepathy, the one thing she doesn't have a defense against. Even if she was able to figure it out and use their weakness against them, they could make her forget it. Telepaths can trump anyone and ones with the abilities of White Martians are the most dangerous.

6 Reverse Flash's Insanity And Superspeed Would Let Him Overcome Captain Marvel

Reverse-Flash Lightning Rod

Reverse Flash is one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe. While there's a good chance that Captain Marvel's flight speed matches or surpasses his speed, he's a lot faster in other ways and that will give him the advantage. She's not used to battling someone whose entire life is about speed like Reverse Flash.

She'd have to be able to see Reverse Flash to use her greater power and strength against him and that would prove impossible unless he wanted her to. He could phase through her attacks and hit her millions of time in the span of seconds. Beyond that, if worse came to came, he could use the infinite mass punch against her, which would easily spell the end for the hero.

5 Rogol Zaar's Abilities Would Allow Him To Overwhelm Captain Marvel

Kryptonian hunter Rogol Zaar

Rogol Zaar made a huge splash upon his debut, smacking around Kryptonians like it was no one's business. It's always been a question whether Superman is more powerful than Captain Marvel and while she probably has him beat in some respects, she doesn't have Zaar beat, who can face down multiple yellow sun powered Kryptonians at once.

While Captain Marvel's fighting skill gives her an advantage over many foes, Zaar is probably more skilled, nullifying any advantage she has. Captain Marvel would give it the old college try but she just couldn't stand up against Zaar.

4 Circe's Magic Makes Her Than A Match For Captain Marvel

Circe

While the good Captain has been dabbling with magic lately, she still has a lot to learn. Circe is one of Wonder Woman's greatest foes, blessed by the Goddess of Magic herself. Circe has been mastering the dark arts for millennia and as powerful as Captain Marvel is, it would be impossible for her to stand against Circe.

Circe's magic gives her so many options against Captain Marvel, ones that she can't really compete with. Circe is too smart to face Marvel on the hero's terms so she'll work against her in her own way, using her power and cunning to win.

3 Brainiac Has Too Many Weapons To Use Against Her

Brainiac Cropped

Brainiac is one of the most dangerous threats in the DC Universe, traveling the cosmos committing atrocities. He's also exactly the kind of threat that Captain Marvel would try to tackle. Unfortunately for her, it would be futile. Brainiac is too smart to run into battle against her; he'll use his drones to get readings on her and formulate a plan.

With that done, he'll really get serious against her, putting his plan into effect. Captain Marvel is good, so she'll almost certainly be able to fight through it but that doesn't mean she'll be able to take down Brainiac.

2 Doomsday's Physical Might Would Be Too Much For Her

Doomsday in the comics

Captain Marvel has a lot of powers but so did Superman when he battled Doomsday and he ended up dead. Doomsday is a physical titan, one who has proven more than a match for just about anyone he's fought. Captain Marvel is a great hero and one who has been able to beat just about every threat she's faced but Doomsday would be too much for her.

All of the powers in the world haven't mattered against Doomsday. He's a next-level threat and once he gets started, it's hard to deal with him. Captain Marvel is tough but Doomsday is tougher and that's going to make all the difference.

1 Darkseid Is Too Devastatingly Powerful For Captain Marvel

Darkseid Is The End In Infinite Frontier

Darkseid is one of the greatest villains in the DC Universe and more than powerful enough to take down any single hero. Superman has been able to hold his own against Darkseid but beyond actual gods, he's pretty much the only one. Captain Marvel has faced down some powerful threats but she couldn't handle the God of Evil.

On a one on one basis, Darkseid would be able to beat her into submission. If he uses the Omega Effect, she would fall to it. Darkseid is just too much for Captain Marvel, as good as she is.
