DC Comics licensing of the pulp hero Doc Savage was years in the making, but once the publisher nabbed the legendary pulp icon, things started moving much quicker. From November's "Batman/Doc Savage" special through his upcoming solo series, Doc is making waves in the publishers lineup, and appropriately the big story set to establish both that hero and a host of other pulpy action stars is called "First Wave."

Today, DC released the first color pages for the six-issue series by Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales via their The Source blog. The pages show both the opening sequence teased in recent issues of DC books in black and white and a few other pages shown in unfinished form earlier this year. Azzarello revealed to the blog, "It's exciting to be part of this. Everybody involved has really worked their tails off building this world, and as it rolls out in the next few months, you can expect more than a few surprises. The most important thing for us as creators is to make readers care about the characters. I think they'll find themselves caring in ways they haven't before. It should be fun."
